The sheltered southern coast of the Lleyn Peninsula harbours a wealth of sandy beaches and coves; the nearest being a mere ¾ mile away. Here a temperate climate offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities; sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing facilities abound, and there are some beautiful walking paths along the shore. Some of Wales’ best beaches are to be found an easy drive away at the tip of the Peninsula; Abersoch and Aberdaron in particular offer wide sandy stretches popular with watersports enthusiasts. Just over a mile away, lies the coastal town of Criccieth, where there is a sandy beach at low tide and a 13th-century castle perched on a rocky headland. Across the bay the dramatically located Harlech Castle stands as another testament to more turbulent times. For shopping, good dining and a weekly street market, visit the bustling port town of Pwllheli (6 miles), while the holiday centre of Porthmadog has a wide range of facilities for rock climbing, riding, canoeing and fishing.
