Find cottages in North Wales BordersVisit North Wales Borders

The North Wales Borders is situated in the north east corner of Wales with easy access from England and the conurbations of Liverpool, Manchester and the west Midlands. But it's well worth visiting from further afield as it provides for a lovely holiday location in a most beautiful region of the UK. It's a region that has much appeal to holidaymakers with great days out and places to visit and also conveniently placed for trips to the north Wales coast and even Snowdonia.

Offa's Dyke, once a fortified boundary between the kingdoms of Mercia and Powys is today better appreciated as one of the UK's most popular walking trails. At nearly 200 miles long the path takes in some of the region's most spectacular landscapes including the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley which are Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

An equally splendid display of regional heritage can be found at the Llangollen Canal. In recent years UNESCO made over 10 miles of this wonder of engineering, including the amazing Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage site. At 1,000 feet long and 126 feet high it spans the beautiful Dee Valley and carried over 1,000 canal boats over the bridge every year.

The Clwydian Range, designated an AONB, extends over 35 kilometres of limestone cliffs and heather clad moorland and is the perfect place for walkers who come to appreciate the wonderful scenery of this part of Wales. Walkers should also head for the Dee Valley, which offers a 15 mile walk from either Llangollen or Corwen, or if this sounds a bit extreme you could consider a leisurely trip down a canal on a horse drawn canal boat.

The region has its fair share of lovely towns and villages to explore, for example the lovely little market town of Wrexham offers a range of heritage sights alongside a number of contemporary attractions and Chirk is an equally attractive proposition with a castle, aqueduct and championship golf course. Mold in Flintshire has street markets, historical buildings and a leading theatre and Denbigh has strong historical roots with a medieval castle and castle walls, museum and art gallery.

This compact area of north Wales has a lot to offer; blissful relaxation, beautiful countryside, great outdoor activities and fascination towns and villages.
