Gwynedd in North West Wales has an untouched mountainous and coastal landscape, which includes the magnificent Snowdonia National Park and a coastline of sandy beaches that face out over the Irish Sea. An area of great natural beauty and the perfect antidote to our busy, hectic lives!

The region is sparsely populated and has a rich and colourful history that dates back to 5th century Britain; a magical kingdom to explore, filled with history, heritage, eye-watering views and fantastic attractions. Here you'll find towering mountains and fast flowing rivers, ancient forests and tranquil valleys, fascinating castles and quiet beaches.

There's plenty to see and do; a great way to get a feel for the area is to travel on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways which takes you 13 miles from Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and a 25 mile journey from Caernarfon through the foothills of Snowdon, respectively.

While you may see many of Gwynedd's attractions en-route many of them are worth stopping for. The castle at Caernarfon is just one such attraction. Looming magnificently over the town the 700-year-old castle is in fantastic condition and offers a truly atmospheric visitor experience. Make sure you check out the views too! The Welsh Slate Mine paints a fascinating picture of Gwynedd's industrial history. This may sound a bit dry but it's actually a fun and interesting way to learn about the beautiful landscape that surrounds you and well worth a few hours of your time.

Garden lovers should head for some high-altitude garden delights at Wales' highest garden, the Caerau Uchaf open gardens with a pet's corner and adventure playground for the children. Also of interest is the seaside garden, Sunningdale, at Amlwch; a wild area with beaches, caves, cliffs and wildflowers.

And of course no trip to Gwynedd would be complete without a ramble in the Snowdonia National Park so get on your walking boots and you'll be rewarded with some of the most stunning scenery in Britain.

This holiday home lies close to the town of Caernarfon and there is much to see in the area, including mighty Caernarfon Castle, the Galeri Arts Centre or take a trip on a steam train on the Welsh Highland Railway to Beddgelert. Children will also love Caernarfon’s Fun Centre (Yr Hwylfan), and Gypsy Wood Park in nearby Bontnewydd. It is also just a short journey to the Isle of Anglesey with its spectacular 125 miles of coastline and fascinating places to visit such as Beaumaris with its Edward I castle, Red Wharf Bay and the beautiful and leafy Newborough Forest. In the other direction is Snowdon which, at 3,560ft, is the highest mountain in Wales. A more relaxing way than climbing to the top is to take the train to the visitor centre at the summit - on a clear day the views are spectacular! The Victorian town of Llandudno, Llanberis and picturesque Betws-y-Coed are all within easy reach. Shop and pub 1½ miles.

This is a great day out for all the family as access is on foot! At Dolgadfa there is the breathtaking scenery of the estate, and the Berwyn Mountains and Dee Valley are on the doorstep. A short drive leads to Arenig and Aran Mountains and the Snowdonia National Park. Dolgadfa-Crogen is home to Get Wet, the outdoor adventure activity company. The high rope course is one of Europe’s highest and most challenging; paint balling is also available. Lake Bala offers a wide variety of water sports. The white water course at the National White Water Centre on the River Tryweryn is renowned. Courses are available for kayaking, rafting and canoeing.
