Find cottages in Betws-Y-CoedVisit Betws-Y-Coed

Betws-y-Coed village is the gateway to Snowdonia and lies within The Snowdonia National Park. Its beautiful location in Snowdonia Forest Park makes it ideal for exploring and activity holidays.

The village has plenty of craft and activity shops and is surrounded by beautiful mountain and woodland scenery that has attracted artists since Victorian times; for those seeking a rural cottage break in this stunning part of Wales it should be no surprise to find out that there are some wonderful natural attractions on the doorstep, including sign-posted walks, cascading waterfalls and historic landmarks.

Swallow Falls is one of the region's most popular destinations, offering a lovely walk and views of the majestic cascading waters. If you fancy a little tranquillity then a walk in Gwydir Forest comes highly recommended and if you visit in the early morning there are few experiences as magical. For a high altitude view and some high-octane thrills, try The Treetop Adventure for a variety of fun activities for explorers of all ages.

The region also offers some fantastic man-made heritage; of particular interest are St Mary's church in the centre of the village and the restored St Michael's church.

If you'd like to begin your exploration of the area and wider region look holiday cottages in Betws-y-Coed.

The Log House Ref: OQF

Set in extensive, private woodland grounds which extend to over 25 acres, The Log House nestles within a mixed ‘old plantation’ forest offering the most outstanding ‘get away’ retreat. Located just outside Capel Curig and only six miles from Snowdon, the house was built over 110 years ago by a Norwegian sea captain. It was later owned by the Lloyd George family during the 1920s, reputedly used by the prime minister at the height of his powers as a hideaway for himself and his girlfriends! Guests are free to roam the grounds which are available for their exclusive use. Features include a lively tributary of the River Llugwy which tumbles down the mountain side on the eastern boundary, a tennis court, cross country running track, summer house (built by Lloyd George), an orchard and football pitch! There is also a small heated outdoor swimming pool available by prior arrangement. Follow tracks around the grounds, some of which take you to the top of Alt Goch, and these offer amazing 360 degree views of Snowdonia. Moel Siabod, a 872m high summit (from which it is reputedly possible to see 13 of the 14 highest peaks in Wales on a clear day), can be conquered direct from the house and forms an amazing back drop to the lower gardens. The house is surrounded by terraced gardens and for those with the outdoor spirit, a fire pit with seating is available on an upper terrace for evenings around an open fire. A short climb up a path leads to the property which provides a unique and cosy atmosphere only a log house can generate. Views of the lower ranges of Snowdonia can be seen from two bedrooms and the rear terrace. Nearby Betws-y-Coed is known for its bustling shops, pubs and restaurants. Swallow Falls are a 30-minute walk (or 5 minutes’ drive), and Llanberis, Snowdon and the outdoor pursuits of Capel Curig are easily accessible. Shops 2 miles.
