- Goodrich Castle stands on a wooded hill and offers spectacular views of the Wye Valley. As well as offering a dramatic display of medieval history, the castle comes to life thanks to a packed schedule of events taking place all year round. More civilised history is celebrated at Berrington Hall, a neoclassical National Trust property offering spectacular interiors and beautiful open gardens. Capability Brown's final landscape surrounds the hall and that is reason enough to visit.
- If you'd rather see history in action then Hereford itself offers incredible examples of historic architecture, including the Old House, The Bishop's House and the spectacular cathedral, which houses the Mappa Mundi - the largest medieval map in existence. Hereford still makes good on its origins as a trading town, with goods from all over the county bought and sold. So if you fancy seeing all that the county has to offer you might like to pay a visit to the city market.
- Speaking of goods, Herefordshire offers visitors on a holiday cottage break a fantastic selection of delicious local produce. Choose from a variety of local apple and pear ciders, fresh strawberries, incredible dairy products, meat and poultry, vegetables and condiments. There are a number of food festivals that bring together the amazing produce of the region in one location. If you fancy a spot of education to accompany your indulgence why not pay a visit to Westons Cider Mill, you'll find a whole host of fun activities for all the family and yes, you can sample the wares!
- After all that food you may decide to take a more active view of the region in which case a gentle canoe ride down the beautiful River Wye is the perfect solution, allowing you to feast on the beautiful scenery.
