Heart of England secrets to whet your appetite

  • Nottinghamshire is famous for the legend of Robin Hood and a holiday cottage in the region puts you in the perfect place to explore the inspiration. Visit Sherwood Forest for beautiful scenery and attractions based on the infamous outlaw. Creswell Crags tells a story even further back in history, up to 50,000 years ago to be precise. Visitors can explore the limestone gorge and see the caves that once acted as a holiday cottage for early man. More contemporary attractions in Nottinghamshire can be found at Sundown Adventureland, a theme park for the under 10s. With all kinds of rides and attractions it's guaranteed to amuse your very own outlaws.
  • Leicestershire has a wide variety of attractions, from the historic to the futuristic. Visit Rockingham Castle for a taste of medieval life in the region and to see how it inspired Dickens to create some of his most celebrated works. And we're sure Bleak House wasn't directly inspired. Leicester itself contains plenty of heritage but also houses the National Space Museum. Inside the 42-metre 'Rocket Tower' you'll find a host of interactive activities and exhibitions for all ages.
  • Both Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire contain more than enough activities for those with a holiday cottage in the area. Cambridge is one of the UK's most celebrated university towns, offering visitors plenty of heritage to explore. We'd also recommend a sleepy punt ride down the river, or sitting outside one of the many fantastic pubs. Many visitors with a holiday cottage in Lincolnshire descend on the coast. Skegness is particularly popular for those after an authentic English seaside holiday. The relaxed pace of life in the county also makes exploring the sleepy villages a delight.
