This stone-built Edwardian mansion with its converted coach house and stable is situated near Selkirk, in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Edinburgh to the north, and the Berwickshire and Northumbrian coast to the east, are all within a pleasant hour’s drive.
A perfect base for a peaceful country holiday, the cottages of Abbey Court, the individual character of the Coach House properties and the spacious apartments located within Whitmuir Hall itself, offer a range of accommodation for all tastes, seasons and party sizes. There are 32 acres of private grounds consisting of woodland and lawns, and a recreation building containing a heated indoor swimming pool (access by arrangement).
Recreational possibilities include: 21 golf courses included in the Freedom of the Fairways Passport; walking, whether gently through woods and alongside rivers and towns, or on the more challenging Southern Upland and St Cuthbert’s Ways; cycling for all abilities on quiet local roads, on the many great cycle routes nearby or try some downhill trails at Glentress Forest, Peebles (cycle store available at the properties); or have fun on their Go Ape tree top adventure course; fishing for salmon and trout on the River Tweed and its tributaries, or on stocked lochs for trout and coarse fish. Historic houses, abbeys and castles including Melrose Abbey (burial place of the the heart of Robert the Bruce); Mary Queen of Scots’ house in Jedburgh; Traquair, the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland, and the Roman camp of Trimontium.
Other activities in the area include horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and mountain biking, all within 30 minutes’ drive. Good selection of pubs and restaurants locally.
As well as holidays and weekend breaks, we also cater for family gatherings, anniversaries, weddings and any other celebrations with accommodation for larger parties. For group, corporate and party bookings, a bar and catering are available by arrangement. An initial grocery order service is available on request. The top of Duncryne Hill is only 20 minutes walk through the woods and field, and provides one of the best 360-degree views in Scotland and a spectacular panorama of Loch Lomond. A nature conservancy area is within walking distance where a large variety of wildlife may be seen including deer, ducks, geese, herons, raptors and swans. Local visits include distilleries and an aquarium. The numerous attractions in Glasgow and Stirling are within 40 minutes driving or the former can be easily reached by train from Balloch, 3 miles away.
