Find cottages in SelkirkVisit Selkirk

The Royal Burgh of Selkirk is one of the most historically important towns in the Scottish Borders. It is one of the oldest Scottish border settlements and has played host to many of Scotland's most famous historical figures. It's also a great place for a cottage holiday in the Scottish Borders.

This area of Scotland is renowned for its beauty and there are literally hundreds of miles of walking paths, hillside treks and biking routes that criss-cross the rolling countryside. The river Tweed has excellent fishing spots and you are never too far away from a fantastic golf course.

The town has a rich history, telling its story through the buildings, artwork, statues and monuments. King David I, William Wallace and Sir Walter Scott all have had key roles in the history of the town, with Wallace being appointed Guardian of Scotland in the nearby forest and Sir Walter Scott having served as Sheriff for nearly 30 years in the 1800s. For those wishing to explore Scotland's past, Selkirk is a brilliant starting point.

The town has an excellent museum that recreates the building's origins as an 1800s shop and there is also a theatre that stages music concerts and drama performances. The market square is full of historical statues and quaint shops and when you need a break from your exploration, you will never have to search far for somewhere to get some great local food or to warm yourself by a pub fireplace at night.

Explore the Borders from Selkirk holiday cottages and cottages in the surrounding area.

Harmony Garden Ref: 30061

This 19th century house is a peaceful haven, set in the lush walled Harmony Garden. Harmony was given its name by the Melrose joiner who built it, after the Jamaican pimento plantation where he made his fortune. This detached holiday house has been carefully furnished to combine period detail with all the comforts. Gathering together the whole family in Harmony’s opulent drawing room should be a step back in time without having to leave contemporary convenience behind. Harmony Garden is a tranquil walled garden comprising lawns, herbaceous and mixed borders, vegetable and fruit, and a rich display of spring bulbs. The garden’s texture, fragrance and colour change throughout the year making it a place to return to again and again. A trip to Melrose isn’t complete without a wander round the Abbey. Although portions of the 12th century structure survive, the magnificent rose-stone building dates from the 1385 rebuilding. Look out for the chapter house, where Robert the Bruce’s heart is said to be buried, or the statue of Scottish medieval wizard, Michael Scott. Visit nearby rustic Priorwood Garden to learn about the craft of dried flower work; pick your own blooms to order and take home. Walk part of the St Cuthbert’s Way, following in the footsteps of the eponymous saint. The whole route takes four days and leads across the mudflats to Lindisfarne. The Melrose to St Boswell’s section is 7½ miles each way. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Stairs to entrance. First floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen. Stairs to library. Bathroom with toilet. Separate toilet. Second floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, one (5ft) with additional Z-bed (for alternative sleeping) and en-suite bathroom with toilet, 1 twin. Shower room with toilet. Third floor: 3 twin bedrooms, one with sloping ceiling.

Open fire in living room included. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Gas range. Microwave. Washing machine (in outbuilding). Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed garden with patio area and furniture. Shared gardens (open to public). Ample parking. Cycle store. No smoking. Friday to Friday.
