The pretty town of Peebles, in the Scottish Borders, is set amongst rolling hills on the banks of the River Tweed. Come here for a leisurely long weekend or a week away and enjoy the town's unspoilt character.
The town has elegant Victorian architecture, many fine buildings and a relaxed, genteel atmosphere. It's close to lovely river-side walks and restful parkland areas. It's also becoming recognised as a destination for art and culture lovers. A good starting point is the Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre, where you'll find a varied programme of music, dance, cinema and visual arts, so there's something to suit the whole family.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the charming High Street to the old Mercat Cross or get some fresh air with a walk by the River Tweed. If you come to Peebles in June, the annual Beltane Festival is not to be missed. This week-long celebration is steeped in tradition, and you'll have the opportunity to witness the Neidpath Ceremony and Riding of the Marches, as well as a colourful procession through the streets and alleyways of the town.
Walking and cycling is popular here, with easy access to the Tweeddale Forest and Southern Upland Way. Golfers will find plenty of excellent golf courses in the region and of course if you like a spot of fishing you're in the right place!
If you fancy eating out you'll find plenty to tempt your tastebuds here; from good local traditional fare to international food on offer in the cafes, bars and restaurants of Peebles.
