Situated in the Scottish Borders, the market town of Duns has a history that stretches back over 1000 years and today offers a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors.

This rural town has a large market square and a centuries old castle as well as historic houses of much grandeur. Duns Castle dates back to the early 14th century, but most of which stands today was built at the beginning of the 1800s. In addition to the castle itself, visitors can enjoy the stunning parkland that surrounds it. Just outside the town sits the truly grand Manderston House, which contains the only silver staircase in the world and a vast collection of Huntley and Palmers biscuit tins!

One of the greatest motor racing drivers in history, Jim Clark, was raised near the town and today, visitors can look back on his life and career at the museum dedicated to him, the Jim Clark Room. This fascinating little museum is open between March and October and is crammed full of memorabilia and trophies from Clark's career.

As a comfortable base for enjoying the historic county of Berwickshire, Duns is ideal and you will find plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs in the town. The dramatic Borders coastline lies to the east and provides lovely days out.

A fittingly historic Borders setting

Superbly set within the 1,200 acre estate surrounding magnificent Duns Castle, and just 30 minutes’ drive from sandy beaches, these holiday cottages are perfectly positioned to make the most of a holiday in Scotland’s Border country. Providing comfortable accommodation, they both enjoy access to walks in the extensive grounds, which include deciduous woodland, hill vistas, a nature reserve and a splendid lake. At the heart of the Estate, Duns Castle is the owner’s home where generations of the Hay family have lived since 1696. Step back in time with dinner in the grand castle dining room, available by arrangement. The Castle is just under a mile from the quiet market town of Duns which has good local shops, pubs and restaurants along with a swimming pool, sports centre, tennis courts and 18-hole golf course.
