Stirlingshire straddles Scotland's central belt with Edinburgh to the south east and Glasgow to the south west, it includes a beautifully varied rural landscape that extends into the western fringes of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

This is an area where Scotland's history was made and the ancient city of Stirling was at the centre of it. Stirling was Scotland's heritage capital and the scene of wars of independence, the place where for 300 hundred years the monarchs of Scotland ruled.

You can sense the historical significant of this city when you see the magnificent Stirling castle in its dominant cliff-top position. Stirling's old town contains the busy city centre and has many historical buildings including beautifully preserved mansion houses, renaissance period and medieval churches.

One of Scotland's most famous battles was fought at nearby Stirling Bridge which is commemorated by the towering National Wallace Monument, rising 220 feet and with views extending to Loch Lomond to the west and the Forth Bridge to the east.

The Forth Valley is home a number of rural villages and towns including Aberfoyle, in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Forest Park on the banks of the Forth River. Also handily place for the Forest Park is Callendar, a busy tourist town with plenty of amenities and is situated where the lowlands meet the highlands. It has a riverside location and was also famous as the location of the BBC series Doctor Findlay's Case Book (for those who can remember). Dunblane a few miles north of Stirling, is an ancient town that was first established in 602 and became an important ecclesiastical centre in Scotland.

To the east of Stirling The Clackmannanshire Tower Trail takes in some wonderful historical sites such as Alloa Tower dating to the 14th century now fully restored and is Scotland's largest surviving keep, Castle Campbell (also known as Castle of Glooms) and Menstrie Castle where the first Earl of Stirling was born.

Stirlingshire's central position makes this region ideal for getting around central Scotland; to the west lays the stunning and beautiful Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and Loch Katrine and to the east is Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth.

There are quiet roads and trails to explore around the Castle, with good access for walks and cycling. The cosy double bedroom is beautifully coordinated and enjoys a lovely view.
