Find cottages in StirlingVisit Stirling

With cottages in close proximity to the historic and beautiful city of Stirling there is no better way to explore both Scottish culture and the unspoilt rural countryside of central Scotland with easy access to both lowland and highland landscapes.

At the heart of central Scotland is the country's 'heritage capital'. Stirling is a historic town rich in antique beauty and proud of its nationhood.

Stirling was the site of many battlegrounds of the Wars of Independence and the opulence of three centuries of monarch rule can still be felt in the Old Town mansions beneath the castle rock. Fine examples of medieval, Renaissance and Victorian architecture have been beautifully preserved and provide the highlight of the heritage mile and scenic Back Walk that meanders between the old and new areas of the town.

As one of the country's most important historical sites, Stirling Castle overlooks the town and offers spectacular views from the roof terraces and gardens. There's a vibrant array of historical activities for the family with highlights such as the vaults tour and interactive adventures. Head to the Wallace Monument and climb the 220ft structure to learn about the Scottish icon of independence and gaze out to the Forth Valley and Loch Lomond.

As well as an abundance of museums and galleries, golfers might like to visit Stirling Golf Club; one of many spectacularly scenic courses in the area. Join a cycling tour of the region, hop into an air balloon for a champagne flight or even grab a ticket for a Stirling Albion football match at the Fourthbank Stadium!

Tour the region and you'll find lots of places of interest; picturesque towns, villages, lochs, forest and coast. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are well within reach for days out. The possibilities are limitless - search for Stirling holiday cottages, for accommodation.

Orchard Lodge Ref: UXR

Set within the extensive grounds of a stunning Edwardian house (which now serves as a conference centre), this stylish modern detached house, with its own private entrance, has been designed to a very high specification for a holiday stay and boasts seven bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities. Elegantly furnished and particularly thoughtfully finished, the living room overlooks the orchard and has the added feature of a ‘glass wall’, allowing a wide field of view to be taken in. A large grassed garden is available for sole use, and there are very attractive mature gardens and grounds surrounding the conference centre, which have fine views of the Ochil Hills.
The area immediately surrounding the house is rich in history. Known as Rob Roy and William Wallace Country, there are several places of interest to visit, as well as monuments that played a part in the turbulent stories of the past. Nearby is the beautifully restored Alloa Tower, coming under the care of the NTS, which was the ancestral home of the Earls of Mars for centuries, and which affords fine views of the Forth from its parapet walk. From Castle Campbell, there are magnificent views of the hills beyond and down the glen to Dollar – an affluent town that is home to the respected Academy. Flanked by the rushing streams of the Burn of Sorrow and the Burn of Care, the wooded glen leading up to the castle offers a pleasant walk.
Straddling the River Forth, Stirling (just a 15-minute drive away), has the lofty Wallace Monument, which stands proudly as a tribute to William Wallace. From the top of the tower, views across to Fife and Ben Lomond can be savoured. Stirling’s magnificent castle overlooks the town and historical re-enactments are frequently staged here. Also within easy reach are Edinburgh and Glasgow – both lying within a 40-minute drive. Retail outlet village at Tillicoultry, and activities such as golf, riding, hill walking and fishing all available nearby. Shops 1/2 mile.
