At the gateway to the Highlands, the beautiful town of Callander lies on the River Teath, east of Stirling and is the perfect cottage holiday base from which to explore the Trossachs National Park and Loch Lomond.

The town is situated below high wooded crags, with dramatic views to the Forth Estuary on a good day. Lochs, mountains and picturesque towns are all within easy reach.

Cycle paths trail the ancient Callander to Oban railway and provide a chance to see some of the most beautiful scenery; walkers will find numerous routes of varying difficulty surrounding the town. Pony trekking is also very popular in the region, through woodland, stream and hill terrain and is a great way to get close to the local wildlife. If you play golf head for Callander Golf Club, a scenic 18-hole course with lovely views of the surrounding landscape and Ben Ned.

For some local history of the area visit Cambuskenneth Abbey, this houses an important collection of medieval artefacts and has one of the country's oldest gothic bell towers. The abbey was built around 1147 and is a historical landmark is at the heart of ancient Scottish politics.

Callander is well placed with easy access into The Trossachs National Park and Loch Lomond for relaxing days out surrounded by the beauty of this protected area.

Enjoy good local produce at Callander's many eateries ranging from tea rooms to high end fusion restaurants. A number of traditional woollen mills and plenty of gift shops selling local crafts and traditional whisky are can also be found in town.
