Find cottages in BlairgowrieVisit Blairgowrie

At the foot of the imposing Grampian mountains and just north of Perth, upon the banks of the River Ericht, is the town of Blairgowrie. As you would imagine from one of the largest towns in Perthshire, there is plenty to do and see here.

The countryside around Blairgowrie is hugely popular with walkers and cyclists and the countryside is simply breathtaking, with many way marked walks and cycle tracks for you to explore as you take in the areas natural, untouched beauty.

Dotted around the area are the reminders of the ancestral homes of the ancient clans, including Craighall Castle, home to the Clan Rattray, overlooking a gorge, and nearby Newton Castle, home to Clan Macpherson and finally Ardblair Castle, with connections to clan Oliphant. Newton Castle and Ardblair Castle are steeped in Jacobean history and intrigue and legend says that they are connected by a secret tunnel!

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy in Blairgowrie, from enjoying a spot of golf at one of the three golf courses in the area, hitting the slops at the nearby Glenshee Ski Centre in the winter, or if you visit on the first Sunday in September, enjoying watching the Blairgowrie Highland Games.

For days out Perth is nearby or venture a little further to Dundee, stopping off at Glamis Castle and Scone Castle.

So whether you are looking for a holiday steeped in history, a peaceful getaway amongst unspoilt countryside, or an activity based holiday, Blairgowrie is ideal place; search for Blairgowrie holiday cottages.

Laundry Cottage Ref: UJP

In the heart of Perthshire, nestling quietly on a private, 1,200-acre estate in the mighty Tay Valley, these four very comfortable holiday cottages enjoy far-reaching views over a patchwork of farm and woodland. Laundry Cottage and Dunmore Bothy are both detached, single-storey cottages, whilst Stable Cottage, also single-storey, adjoins The Coach House, an impressive, 19th-century stone building retaining many of its original features. These smart colour co-ordinated properties have been furnished with rich luxury curtains and soft furnishing and each property has its own garden; visitors have access to a network of over 6 miles of private estate roads covering the extensive grounds, which include a fold of highland cattle, and two small lochs, home to wild ducks and geese. Boat trips can be arranged to fish for brown trout, as well as angling on the River Tay, with some of Scotland’s finest salmon fishing.
At the nearby Loch of Lowes, a visit to the bird hides is often rewarded by sightings of osprey soaring high overhead. Historic Dunkeld village (3 miles) is one of Perthshire’s gems, with a part-ruined cathedral, good shops and restaurants. Perth, 16 miles, offers large areas of green parkland, where sports matches, boating and putting can be enjoyed. The town boasts numerous museums and art galleries, including the museum of the Black Watch, housed in Balhousie Castle. Edinburgh and Aberdeen within 90 minutes’ drive.
Glasgow is also within driving distance and is a paradise for art lovers – the many museums include the Gallery of Modern Art, the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre and the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. More unusual attractions include the Transport Museum, the Botanic Gardens and The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour. Shops 3 miles.
