Find cottages in Isle of MullVisit Isle of Mull

The Isle of Mull is the largest island in the Argyll region and has some 300 miles of beautiful coastline. Standing off Scotland's west coast and with easy ferry access via Oban this island break is perfect for true nature lovers.

Mull has an ancient history that stretches back to the ice age, with evidence of human settlements since that time. Here you'll find bronze age stone circles, iron age fortifications, medieval and baronial castles. Duart Castle is highly recommended; the ancestral home of the Clan Maclean, this stunning medieval fortress looms majestically over the Sound of Mull and provides a fantastic visitor experience.

Its principal town, Tobermory, is well known for its colourful water front, with brightly coloured houses and a picturesque natural harbour where boats moor. It also acquired some fame due to it being the location for the children's TV show, 'Tobermory'.

Beautiful bays and beaches can be found all around the island and in the hinterland Ben More, the islands highest Munro, climbs to over 3,000 feet. The island has wonderful walks where you can walk for miles without seeing anyone!

It's a paradise for nature both on the land and at sea. It's one of the best places to see the magnificent sea eagle, go whale watching, visit sea bird colonies or maybe glimpse a sea otter. One sensational seasonal event is the annual autumn deer rut where the sound of bellowing males can be heard in the hills and glens. Wildlife tours and boat trips are available locally and are a great way to learn about the islands flora and fauna.

The Island's relatively mild climate, due to the Gulf Stream, is beautifully evidenced by Lip na Cloiche Garden and Nursery. This lovely little garden offers a beautiful myriad of colours through its stunning flora, alongside some delightful locally sourced items.

If you're looking for some peaceful relaxation amongst some of the UK's finest views, you'll find Isle of Mull fits the bill. It's also the perfect destination for active holidaymakers who like walking and beachcombing and those interested in wildlife.
