Find cottages in MelvichVisit Melvich

Dramatic coastal scenery, stunning beaches and some of the best surfing in Scotland can be found on Scotland's north coast and the pretty village of Melvich is the ideal cottage holiday base in these most northern reaches of the country.

You're just 15 miles from Thurso and you can follow the coastal road east or west to explore this dramatically remote part of rural Scotland; Melvich Beach is right on your doorstep and is a popular spot for surfers who come here to enjoy the beach and ride the huge waves. If you're travelling with friends or enjoying a romantic break away, why not discover the Malt Whisky Trail; this 3 day trail will take you around some of the most historic and unique distilleries in the Highlands.

Head into the village where you will find a range of local shops as well as cosy Scottish pubs serving local ales. Most also serve food and are happy to cater for families with kids. The emphasis here is on good, traditional Scottish food cooked with locally sourced ingredients.

The great outdoors is the main reason that visitors come here, and there are plenty of walking and cycling trails with spectacular coastal views to enjoy. Take a stroll on the beach or head along the coast and visit the area's other towns and villages. Golfers will love the course near RAF Dounreay and also at Thurso; the rest of the family can take in the sights of the town whilst you enjoy a few holes.

Search for Melvich holiday cottages and start your hunt for your northern Highlands getaway on the dramatic north coast of Scotland.
