Find cottages in Fort WilliamVisit Fort William

Fort William is ideally located for exploring the Highlands, has wonderful views and lots of opportunities to take part in adventure sports.

Known as the UK 'capital' for outdoor sports and activities; you can do almost anything in Fort William, from climbing, mountain-biking and paint-balling, to sea-diving, rafting and kayaking. You could even take a 4x4 quad bike trip or play all four Lochaber golf courses.

Whatever you choose to do, you'll enjoy the spectacular backdrop of some of Scotland's most stunning scenery with its location on the shores of Loch Linnhe and Ben Nevis close by. But of course staying in a Fort William holiday cottage is also ideal if you prefer to explore without so much exercise! Let the mountain gondola transport you effortlessly to 650m on the slopes of Aonach Mor, or hop on 'The Jacobite' steam train, travelling between Fort William and Mallaig. Some of the carriages of 'The Jacobite' are those used in the Harry Potter films and the route travels via the famous Glenfinnan viaduct, an unmistakeable landmark for fans of the movies.

During WWII, a training ground for Commandos was established in Lochaber and visitors can now see a striking bronze memorial statue, above Spean Bridge, commemorating those who died in combat. Keen photographers will find a wealth of picture opportunities in Fort William and the surrounding area; wildlife abounds and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, dominates the local landscape.
