Find cottages in DornochVisit Dornoch

The small and historic town of Dornoch is situated on the east Highland coast by the Dornoch Firth, close to sandy beaches and top-class golf courses. Due to its sheltered location and sunny climate Dornoch is the ideal cottage holiday destination for families, friends and couples alike looking for a peaceful getaway in the Highlands.

Dornoch has a rich historical past and Dornoch Cathedral is on one of the town's most prominent landmarks. Built in the 13th Century the marvellous architecture and beautiful stained glass windows are a sight to behold. Another notable landmark is nearby Skibo Castle, an impressive 12th Century building that now forms the Carnegie Country Club.

The town centre is a Conservation Area due to its rich architectural heritage and there are number of listed buildings in the High Street. The 17th Century Mercat Cross marks the site of the old market, view the last remaining Plaiden Ell measuring stone in the Cathedral grounds, or visit the Witches' stone that commemorates the last person to be burnt at the stake, in 1727. For more insight into the history of the town, the Historylinks museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Dornoch's past.

A beautiful expanse of golden sand welcomes visitors to Dornach beach, perfect for shore line strolls, sand castle building and rock pooling. The town's quiet paths and roads are ideal for exploring by foot or bicycle. Loch Laoigh and Loch Lannsaidh, located nearby, offer plenty of fly fishing opportunities, and the abundance of wildlife is a major draw card for bird watchers and nature lovers.

The area has some first class golf courses including The Royal Dornoch championship course which is without doubt one of the best golf courses in the UK.

Explore a glorious corner of the Scottish Highlands when you book Dornoch holiday cottages for your getaway.
