Ballindalloch is a small village in the heart of Speyside on the River Spey, between Dufftown and Grantown-on Spey. This charming holiday cottage destination is named after Ballindalloch Castle, 'The Pearl of the North' and possibly Scotland's most romantic castle.
This lovely village is a great self-catering destination, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of city life amongst tranquil surroundings and beautiful countryside.
Ballindalloch Castle is without a doubt the village's most prominent landmark, and this beautiful residence is open to visitors over the summer months, when the gardens are at their best. Known as The Pearl of the North, construction began as early as 1546, after which it was added to and renovated over several centuries, to become the magnificent building it is today. Visitors to the castle are able to view an impressive collection of 17th Century Spanish paintings and traditional pipers and Scottish dancers perform regularly on the grounds. The gardens of the castle have been beautifully maintained and visitors can enjoy a wander through the rock garden and ancient dovecote.
The area is also famous for whiskey, and there are many distilleries in the vicinity, including Glenfarclas, which is home to the largest number of stills in the Highlands. The distillery dates back to 1836 and is the place to visit if you have an interest in the history of Scotch. Also close by is the Glenfiddich distillery.
Ballindalloch is an exceptionally beautiful village and offers some lovely walks and cycle trails through the village and into the countryside beyond. The whole area is a haven for wildlife with a great variety of animals and birds and an excellent destination for fishing (permits required) on the banks of the River Dee.
