Find cottages in BiggarVisit Biggar

On the northern edge of the Scottish Southern Uplands lies the charming market town of Biggar. Within reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh for days out and close to the famous River Clyde, Biggar offers a range of attractions and outdoor activities.

Situated on the Clyde Valley National Tourist Route, Biggar is an excellent location for exploring the lovely rolling countryside of south Lanarkshire. The town has plenty to offer visitors which still retain its medieval layout including a main street that's lined with centuries old houses, many of which have been converted into traditional pubs and restaurants serving good Scottish fare.

The Gladstone Court Museum offers a fascinating insight into life in rural Scotland through the ages and the Greenhill Covenanters House is a farmhouse museum that transports visitors back to the 17th Century. The Victorian Puppet Theatre is also worth a visit and a show and tour of the theatre is a fun way to spend an afternoon.

If you enjoy walking and cycling Biggar will suit. A wander through the farmlands and across the moors is one of the best ways to view the region and there are many nature trails that run alongside the River Clyde. A walk up Tinto Hill or Culter Fell offers a superb view over the Clyde Valley and the unspoilt vistas are breath taking. Scotland is famous for its golf courses and golf enthusiasts can use Biggar as a base for easy access to some fine courses.
