Find cottages in St AndrewsVisit St Andrews

St. Andrews may be known principally for its championship golf courses, but this charming and historic town is also a wonderful place for a cottage holiday. It certainly has that lovely old-world atmosphere that comes from its old university and medieval buildings.

In amongst the cobbled streets and narrow alley ways of the medieval town centre are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants. Discover the St. Andrew's Castle, Cathedral and adjacent Church of St. Regulus, and climb the steps in the tower for magnificent views over the town.

Sitting on the east coast of Fife, St. Andrews is an historic former Royal burgh and is home to St. Andrews University, Scotland's oldest university. The medieval streets of St, Andrews are peppered with historical university buildings, the stunning quadrangles of St. Mary's and St. Salvator's colleges are open for the public to explore and whilst at St. Mary's, you should seek out the thorn tree planted in a peaceful enclave, which is said to have been planted by Mary, Queen of Scots back in 1565. During term time the university traditions can be seen in the town every Sunday as red-gowned students embark on the walk along St. Andrews pier after Sunday Chapel.

St. Andrews is also famously lauded as the home of golf. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club has played host to the famous Open Championship on many occasions and was first established as a golf course in 1754. There are several golf courses at St. Andrews for visitors to enjoy and they are widely regarded as being amongst the finest links courses in the world.

This is a coastal town with access to a wide sandy beach where you can stroll or indulge in some seal spotting which can often be seen off this coast.

Whether you are looking to tee off, bask in the royal history or explore the local wildlife St. Andrews is definitely the place for you; so search for holiday cottages in St Andrews today.
