Sandyhills is located on the beautiful Solway coast, a stretch of Scottish coastline that forms part of the border between Scotland and England. At over 200 miles long, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty, famous for stunning sunsets, coastal walks and abundant bird life.
The coastline features several popular beaches, including Sandyhills. This large, sandy beach is one of Scotland's most sheltered and unspoilt beaches and its shallow waters make it an ideal place for children.
The area is rich in nature and a popular place for bird watching. Some of the UK's rarest birds live in the sands and mud flats of the Solway Firth. Other bird species can be discovered close by at Mersehead RSPB, a wetland reserve and home to thousands of waterfowl.
Golfers will also be spoilt for choice and there are several superb courses to discover, including Southerness, which is located south of Sandyhills and features breath taking coastal views; on a clear day, you may even be able to see the Isle of Man.
This area has plenty of cycle trails and it is worth taking time to go inland to explore some of the best mountain biking routes in the country. The famous 7 Stanes mountain biking trails achieved a place in Lonely Planet Guide list of the world's 1000 ultimate adventures.
Dalbeattie Forest is also a great cycling location. Situated alongside the scenic Urr Valley and Colvend Coast, the lack of hills and gentle forest paths make it suitable for families and riders of any ability.
