Find cottages in SandyhillsVisit Sandyhills

Sandyhills is located on the beautiful Solway coast, a stretch of Scottish coastline that forms part of the border between Scotland and England. At over 200 miles long, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty, famous for stunning sunsets, coastal walks and abundant bird life.

The coastline features several popular beaches, including Sandyhills. This large, sandy beach is one of Scotland's most sheltered and unspoilt beaches and its shallow waters make it an ideal place for children.

The area is rich in nature and a popular place for bird watching. Some of the UK's rarest birds live in the sands and mud flats of the Solway Firth. Other bird species can be discovered close by at Mersehead RSPB, a wetland reserve and home to thousands of waterfowl.

Golfers will also be spoilt for choice and there are several superb courses to discover, including Southerness, which is located south of Sandyhills and features breath taking coastal views; on a clear day, you may even be able to see the Isle of Man.

This area has plenty of cycle trails and it is worth taking time to go inland to explore some of the best mountain biking routes in the country. The famous 7 Stanes mountain biking trails achieved a place in Lonely Planet Guide list of the world's 1000 ultimate adventures.

Dalbeattie Forest is also a great cycling location. Situated alongside the scenic Urr Valley and Colvend Coast, the lack of hills and gentle forest paths make it suitable for families and riders of any ability.

Discover this unspoilt corner of Scotland; search for holiday cottages in Sandyhills today.

These two semi-detached holiday cottages are situated approximately 1 mile off the public road up a private drive, next to the owners’ home and small working farm in a very quiet, peaceful location, which is ideal for secluded retreats or as a central touring base to explore Dumfries & Galloway. The cottages are similar in style and design and Myrtle Cottage (ref 28177) is a restored barn conversion consisting of a traditional granite byre with an architect designed larch clad extension featuring a welcoming woodburner. They are located near the Solway Coast and close to the world-class ‘7 Stanes’ mountain bike facility at nearby Dalbeattie, 10 minutes’ drive. Also in the vicinity is the Galloway Forest Park which is one of just a handful of ‘Dark Sky Parks’ in the western world in recognition of spectacular sightings of the starry skies it affords. The region’s capital, Dumfries, is a 25 minute drive, and is known for its links with Robert Burns; visitors may explore his house, sample a dram in Burns’ favourite hostelry - The Globe Inn, or find out more about him at the Robert Burns Centre. Other nearby areas of interest are Colvend Golf Course and Southerness Golf Course, both 10 minutes away, and horse riding facilities at Barend Riding School at Sandyhills, just 5 minutes’ drive. Along the coast, discover unspoilt villages, dramatic coastlines, sandy beaches and rocky coves. There is wildlife in abundance with an RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve nearby. Whitecroft itself has an abundance of wildlife such as roe deer, red squirrels and plentiful birdlife including the majestic red kite. During times of agricultural activity (lambing, shearing, hay making, feeding calves) the owners are more than happy for visitors to view or even have a try. This can be arranged during your stay. In addition to being an ideal venue for a traditional spring/summer break, the cottages make for a perfect cosy autumn/winter break. Constructed and insulated to the highest standards with the benefit of a technologically advanced biomass boiler, you can enjoy the added bonus of central heating 365 days a year, meaning whatever the weather you’re guaranteed to be warm and cosy for no additional cost. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Forest Lodge Ref: CC537127
Nestled in an idyllic private woodland setting, Forest Lodge offers a lovely relaxing retreat close to Kippford, often described as Scotland’s ‘Riviera’.  Locals refer to this area as ‘The Golden Triangle’ - Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford - and frequent visitors understand why. The climate is temperate as Galloway is touched by the Gulf Stream with many golden, sandy, and often empty beaches to explore. For excellent views of the Rough Firth estuary, the Jubilee Path is highly recommended. This was named to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and is the main path between Kippford and the equally charming village of Rockcliffe.  There are wonderful views out to sea, and the path passes Mark of Mote, a 100-foot high granite outcrop, with a Dark Age settlement on top. Rockcliffe and Sandyhills (with a beautiful sandy beach as its name implies!) are small Victorian bathing resorts close by.

Ground Floor: The accommodation is all at ground floor level, fully centrally heated and comprises:
Open plan lounge / kitchen / diner: a lovely light and spacious room with French windows overlooking the woodland glade.
Lounge area: with TV
Kitchen/diner area: with electric cooker, microwave and fridge with freezer
Bedroom 1: with double bed
Bedroom 2: with two single beds
Shower room: with shower enclosure, WC and wash basin

All fuel and power included. Bed linen provided. Cot and highchair available on request.Very private location. Off road parking for 2 cars. Enclosed garden.
