Culzean Castle and Country Park is typical of Ayrshire's undoubted charms. This huge castle is one of Scotland's most beloved and once you visit you'll see why. Set off the south Ayrshire coast it tells the tale of the Kennedys, one of Scotland's most famous families, whose history can be traced back to Robert the Bruce. Culzean still contains the family's trophies; the house and stunning grounds, stand as magnificent tributes to its heritage.

Robert Burns is probably Ayrshire's most famous former resident and one of Scotland's favourite sons. The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in the village of Alloway is a fascinating tribute and a great visitor attraction in its own right. The nearby Burns Monument and Gardens prove an equally popular tribute and offer a fantastic opportunity to brush up on Scottish culture and history while admiring your idyllic surroundings.

Dean Castle and Country Park is undoubtedly one of the region's best-kept secrets. Explore the castle's fascinating history before taking a leisurely stroll in the grounds and enjoy a host of activities in the 200 acre park. You can even bring the dog!

This modern detached villa is set in a spectacular beachside location in Maidens village, with uninterrupted views over the harbour and towards the Firth of Clyde and the Isle of Arran. Maidens is a small village situated around the shores of Maidenhead Bay on the picturesque Clyde coast, and the village offers a range of amenities including a shop, post office, very popular restaurant, hotel and harbour.
This corner of South West Ayrshire is renowned for its unspoilt scenery and particularly mild climate throughout the year. The area is the perfect holiday spot for the outdoor enthusiast. There are excellent golf courses: the world famous Turnberry is only a mile from Maidens and there are also 18-hole golf courses nearby. There are the usual field sports, excellent rivers for fishing and superb routes for walking.
Ayrshire offers a varying coastline with villages, beaches and rocky coves to explore. Inland there is walking, gardens and castles to visit, riding, racing and a choice of golf courses. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular and is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. Remodelled by the Scottish architect Robert Adam, it houses a small exhibition displaying President Eisenhower’s military civilian and military career and his association with Culzean. The surrounding country park (extending over 550 acres) has a network of wooded trails passing along the beach. Craft shows, country dancing and walks spotting fungi are attractions hosted during the year. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Stranraer, whilst a drive north leads to Ayr (14 miles), a traditional seaside town. Glasgow/Prestwick airport is 20 miles. There are wonderful views of the hills and islands of the Firth of Clyde, and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. In Largs (2 miles) you will find the Kelburn Country Centre and Vikingar - an exciting all-weather leisure centre, with a swimming pool, 500-seat theatre and children’s soft play area. Although an attractive seaside resort now, Largs like much of this area has enjoyed an interesting history - in 1263 it was where the Norse fleet were defeated. From Largs take a ferry to Great Cumbrae Island and visit the aquarium, near Keppel Pier, and the ’Cathedral of the Isles’ on the sandy bay at Millport. The Cumbraes are not the only isles within easy reach. Go from Wemyss Bay across the waters to Bute, or drive south to Ardrossen and arrive in the exceptionally mild island of Arran. Arran is home to a wealth of places to visit, including the NTS owned Goatfell (2,866 ft) with its magnificent views from the Clyde coast to the Hebrides and Northern Ireland. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy making the trip here, as Arran has 6 courses in which to shoot a round. Manor Park is well-placed for anyone looking to plan a diverse holiday itinerary. Whether you take to the sea or prefer to head inland, there is much to fill the days.
