Find cottages in ObanVisit Oban

This busy port is 'The Gateway to the Isles' but it's also perfect for exploring Argyll to the south and the Highlands to the north.

Oban is the ferry port that starts many a Scottish island adventure but this pretty and vibrant town deserves a much closer look in its own right.

The crescent shaped hills that surround Oban Bay forms the port town of Oban, where there are plenty of excellent shops, cafes and restaurants, many of which overlook the picturesque bay, in fact Oban has a great selection of seafood restaurants which is why it's known as the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland'.

One of the town's most prominent features is McCaig's Tower, the grand Victorian folly that looks more like a misplaced Roman Coliseum high above the town; the views from there over the town and far out to sea are well worth the effort. There are also great views at Dunstaffnage Castle, once the stronghold of the McDougalls, nowadays offering superb panoramas over the Firth of Lorn.

To get active try kayaking, gorge walking, coasteering and more at Stramash Outdoor Activities or for less energetic activity why not stroll the Arduaine Gardens, learn about local history at the free War and Peace Museum or surround yourself in traditional music at the Skipinnish Ceilidh House.

Oban cottages also give you a great base for visiting the nearby islands of Mull, Iona and of course, Staffa with the unique and world-famous Fingall's Cave rock formation.

There's a lot to do in and around this small town so why not start searching for Oban Holiday Cottages.

"Breathtaking views over the Sound of Seil"

In a magnificent setting by the sea, Ardmaddy Castle sits in its own bay with unrivalled views over Seil Sound and the world famous local islands, designated one of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. Graded ‘4 Star’ by the Scottish Tourist Board, these four cottages (SBZ, SRW, SRX and SRY) and Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) are set in secluded, peaceful locations around the estate and offer an ideal base for exploring this stunning part of the West Coast of Scotland.
The castle’s spectacular gardens are open all year round through Scotland’s Gardens Scheme and are a delight for gardening enthusiasts. The area is renowned for its abundant wildlife with porpoise, dolphins, basking sharks, otters, deer, eagles and wealth of seabirds often seen. Sailing, rowing and motor boats are all available for guests to hire, and there is free fishing on Ardmaddy’s stocked hill loch. There is also a central games room with table tennis, darts and a pool table, whilst Caddleton Farmhouse (UNP) and The Stables (SBZ) have their own games room. Guests can also use the castle’s tennis court.
