Rhoda’s Cottage is a charming semi detached property located in the small village of Strachur, which lies on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne - famous throughout the United Kingdom for the quality of its sea food. Attached to the west wing of the historic Strachur House, this attractive, tranquil cottage enjoys a private setting with its own front entrance. It occupies an idyllic location on the 2000 acre Strachur Estate. The antique yet practical household furniture ensures Rhoda’s Cottage retains its charming, old fashioned character and charm. The larger bedrooms overlook the spectacular formal gardens of the main house and beyond to the heather clad hills. The smaller bedroom has a view over the much loved loch. Strachur House itself, a fine Adams style mansion, was built by General John Campbell in the 1780s. From 1957 the house was home to the illustrious Scot, Sir John Fitzroy MacLean, the soldier, diplomat and adventurer, who was said to have been the model for Ian Fleming’s hero, James Bond. The Maclean family still live in the main house. The local village shop, cafe, Inn with bar and restaurant, petrol station, village hall and tennis courts are all within easy walking distance from the cottage.

Alder Cottage is a lovely newly refurbished detached property which sits on the hillside overlooking Loch Long and the Firth of Clyde, near Dunoon.   Set on the edge of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, the cottage is one of four situated within a small holiday development with ample outdoor activities available. Internally, Alder is spacious, comfortable and cosy.  On the ground floor there is an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area with a vaulted pine beam ceiling and a built-in wood burning stove.  There is also a shower room with toilet and a double bedroom downstairs. Large patio doors leading out onto a deck with magnificent views over the sea with hills beyond and complete with garden furniture.  There is access to a barbecue area in the open plan/shared garden surrounding the cottages.  Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms; a galleried twin room with a second twin room adjoining, both rooms have coombed ceilings. Alder Cottage can be booked along with Rowan Cottage to provide accommodation for up to 12 people.

The cottage has the additional benefit that it is only a short walk (200 yards) to gain access to the seafront where you can walk, fish, launch a canoe or just rest on the rocks, relax and enjoy the view.

There is a slipway where a small boat or dinghy can be launched, and also tennis courts. Nearby, there are interesting and historic towns and villages. Inveraray is the closest town. Oban, known as the ’Gateway to the Isles’, with its colourful harbour, and the dramatic mountains of Glencoe, near Fort William are scenic day excursions. In a different direction, the Kyles of Bute are nearby and in yet another direction, you pass through the mountainous scenery of the National Park to Loch Lomond with its cruise boats.
