The region is perfect for walkers and cyclists who want to escape into an unspoilt landscape of mountains, forests and lochs and its extensive coastline offers visitors plenty of opportunities to get onto the water; there is excellent sailing, kayaking, surfing and windsurfing.

You'll find holiday cottages that aren't exactly short of beautiful surroundings that are literally right on the door step, for example take some of Argyll's stunning gardens such as Benmore Botanic Garden, which has an incredible mountainside setting and a world-famous horticultural collection, including a stunning array of flora from all over the world or Inverary Castle Gardens and stately home on the edge of Loch Fyne covering 16 acres.

Of course whisky plays a large part of Argyll and Bute's heritage so it goes without saying that a visit to the Oban Distillery is well worthwhile. Learn all about single malt production on the tour then maybe sample a wee-dram afterwards!

If you're looking for something a little more active then drop by Stramash Activity Centre where you can enjoy lots of adventure and activities including kayaking, mountain biking, orienteering and more.
