Find cottages in AngusVisit Angus

Angus lays to the north of the Firth of Tay in the east of Scotland, with mountains and glens in the north, low-lying hills to the south and an untouched coast line that offers a region of contrasts and beauty.

In fact there's natural beauty in abundance in this glorious corner of Scotland, which can be enjoyed at its best when you stay in a holiday cottage. Angus offers so much of what makes holidaying in Scotland special; it was here that the Scottish Declaration of Independence was signed, so it could be considered Scotland's birthplace!

Apart from the magnificent ruins of Arbroath Abbey, site of the independence signing in 1320, the history of Angus is also proudly displayed at Glamis Castle. The former residence of the Queen Mother, Glamis offers a fascinating history as well as some beautiful grounds to explore.

For the ultimate in peaceful contemplation head for the beach at Lunan Bay, one of Angus' best kept secrets, this delightful beach offers a lovely long stretch of quiet golden sand and expansive views over the waters.

The unspoilt surrounds of Angus make it the perfect oasis for holidaymakers seeking peace and tranquillity; you can visit Corrie Fee, a magnificent rocky amphitheatre shaped by glaciers and enjoy the incredible views, maybe glimpse a golden eagle or buzzard soaring overhead, or a herd of wild deer in the woodland.

A variety of stunning landscapes, varied wildlife and bustling towns make for a fantastic holiday for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, history buffs and those after a little bit of fresh air and relaxation on their break.

It's a destination that caters for a wide cross section of visitors. The mountainous northern region is a haven for skiing enthusiasts in the winter months and hill-walkers in summer. Take a trip to the coast and you'll find coastal villages and the renowned 'Arbroath Smokies' (smoked fish).

A day trip to Angus' principal city, Dundee, is well worthwhile for its great shopping and visitor attractions that tell of a rich maritime history and heritage.

Many choose a self-catering cottage holiday as it provides the perfect base for exploring the region and somewhere they can relax in their own space. Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Angus to find your perfect retreat.

Step into the life of an 18th century coachman in these historic apartments, set in House of Dun’s original stable block, which was built to accommodate the grooms who would have kept the Laird’s horses in shining condition. North Stables (ref 30189) and South Stables (ref 30190), each with their own separate entrance, are stylishly furnished and lie off a picturesque sandstone courtyard in the grounds of the House of Dun, an exquisite Georgian mansion, designed and built by William Adam in 1730 for David Erskine, 13th Laird of Dun. Highlights of House of Dun include its saloon with elaborate ornate plasterwork by Joseph Enzer and 800 acres of grounds. Dog owners will have hours of fun on the estate’s woodland walk, while some of the more curious features of the house include its model theatre room and unusual 19th century ’boot-bath’ in Mrs Erskine’s bedroom. With terrain including mud flats, salt marsh, sea water and fresh water, it’s notable for oystercatchers, eiders and pink-footed geese as well as plant life. Local salmon fishing is available on the River South Esk by arrangement and The Angus Glens offer a real treasure trove of hill walking. If you fancy a change of scenery, the Angus coastline provides another dimension in walking with miles of sandy beaches or rugged coastlines. This is an area rich in historical and cultural gems.
