These two holiday properties stand near to each other in their own grounds, each with their own garden, and enjoy a convenient setting close to the heart of the delightful small market town of Ballater with good shops, hotels, restaurants and golf course near at hand. The Coyles (SOOJ) is a wonderful family house and perfect for larger gatherings, whether enjoying a special birthday or a relaxing get together with friends, with plenty of living space and very good amenities throughout to ensure a memorable and convivial holiday. On two levels, it offers a high standard of comfort throughout and is a great choice at any time of the year. The Coyles Cottage (SBH) is set in a delightful part of the garden and is well equipped throughout with a lovely sunny conservatory, and benefits from triple glazing and central heating throughout, affording year-round comfort. An excellent centre from which to discover the many places of interest nearby; Ballater itself is a lovely base with many links to the Royal family and historic castles nearby include Balmoral, Crathies and Craigievar. The Grampians offer wonderful hill walking and wildlife, and the surrounding area of Deeside is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Leisurely walks abound on the banks of the River Dee or alternatively tackle some of the Monros and other mountains in the Cairngorms - a short drive away via some majestic scenery. Skiing is 35 minutes’ drive going through parts of the Whisky Trail, and canoeing and mountain biking are also readily available throughout the region. Shops and pub 100 yards.

The Old Merchant House is a stunning 18th-century old smugglers’ house on the historic harbour front at Portsoy with stunning sea views. Built in 1726 the house is packed with original features including exposed beams, wooden floors and a woodburner situated in the original 18th-century stone fireplace. Accommodation is over three floors, sleeping 6 in three comfortable bedrooms, while from the kitchen and lounge; guests can enjoy the marvellous seascape and activities of the 17th Century harbour. A good pub and coffee shop are within yards of the house, with all the other shops and eateries just a short walk away. This part of the North East of Scotland is often referred to as ’Castle Country’, being home to around a thousand castles or castle ruins, providing a wealth of history to explore. Along the Coast there is an abundance of wildlife to see. Take a trip to Troup Head where you will see the RSPB Gannet colony plus loads of other sea birds; see the seals basking at Port Gordon; go on a boat trip or just get your spyglasses out and spot the famous Moray Dolphins or a Minke Whale. In an area renowned for superb fishing and golf, this wonderful property, one of a pair, could not be in a better location! Just 50 yards from the rushing waters of the lovely River Dee and very close to Banchory Golf Course, this spacious and very comfortable accommodation makes full use of its situation, with patio doors from the living room offering an uninterrupted view of the river itself - where fishing may be arranged with the owner (subject to availability). With all modern facilities, it ensures a very relaxing stay in total comfort.
Banchory is a superb base for a varied holiday with Crathes Castle and garden, and Castle Fraser both well worth a visit. Also boasting two golf courses in the town, there is a wider choice in the surrounding area with excellent hillwalking and skiing available in the Cairngorms just a short distance away. A short drive leads to Ballater, where Queen Victoria first arrived in Desside in 1848. Although the line has long since closed, visitors can still visit the elegant train station in the heart of the town centre. Ballater is also an excellent base for local walks and outdoor activities. A popular walk leads to Lochnagar, the much painted and written about mountain by the current Prince of Wales.
Balmoral is easily accessible for the day and the local distillery at Lochnagar is well worth a visit, with tours and tasting of the local malt available. For an alternative day out, Aberdeen - Scotland’s third largest city, is well worth a visit. Many of the parks have been transformed into ‘flower gardens’ and are some of the most beautiful in Britain. There is also an excellent choice of restaurants and pubs and the livley city harbour comes alive in the evening with a number of theatres. Shops ½ mile.
