Find cottages in AberdeenshireVisit Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire in Scotland's north east offers fantastic access to some of the best that the country has to offer; and as well as having plenty of holiday cottages in the region for you to choose from, you'll also discover breath taking landscapes, rich history and lots of activities for all the family. With such an abundance of things to see and do, you won't have to travel far from your cottage to find some fantastic ways to enjoy your holiday.

It's an area that is tailor-made for relaxing outdoor holidaymaking, offering a wealth of activities and attractions to help make the perfect Scottish holiday break. For example you can enjoy some of the most stunning walks in the highland fells, explore the region's rich history through its many archaeological sites and castles, or head for the coast to relax and enjoy the fresh air, with the most beautiful coastal views.

The region's history is perfectly encapsulated in the incredible Dunnottar Castle. This stunning 14th century fortress offers breathtaking views and thanks to its cliff-top location allows you to bask in some of the region's most beautiful scenery.

Staying in a holiday cottage is also the perfect way to explore the region's whisky heritage. The Speyside Cooperage in Craigellachie grants a uniquely fascinating insight into the production of oak casts. The only one of its kind in the UK, it forms part of the celebrated Malt Whisky Trail.

The outdoor pool in Stonehaven is equally unique. The last of its kind in Scotland, it offers clean seawater heated to 29 degrees C and makes for a uniquely relaxing way to enjoy your break in Aberdeenshire.

Skiing in the Cairngorms is of course one of the highlights of the winter months but thanks to a number of dry slopes it's also possible to pursue your passion in the summer season if you like!

For those after the simple pleasures in nature the region has a multitude of rivers and waterways, making it a haven for anglers and wildlife lovers keen to relax and enjoy the unrivalled tranquility offered by their surroundings.

Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Aberdeenshire to find your perfect retreat.

Preston Tower Ref: 30104

This impressive holiday apartment, reached by a spiral staircase, stretches across the Fyvie Castle’s Preston and Seton towers. It is decorated in a tastefully traditional style with turret rooms and cosy nooks for reading or just relaxing. The glorious silhouette of Fyvie Castle stands among hectares of landscaped parkland, steeped in centuries of history. Four floors of winding nooks and mezzanines, and rooms packed with antique furniture, make a stay at Fyvie feel like stepping into the life of a true Scottish Laird. Fyvie is a fairytale castle with over 800 years of history. Its huge handsome structure is a prime example of Scottish baronial architecture. Inside, elaborate wood panelling, suits of armour and tapestries symbolise the wealth and power of the castle’s succession of owners. The castle also contains an outstanding collection of art, including works by Raeburn and Gainsborough. From this property, try to find the missing weeping stones in the grounds, said by ancient prophet Thamas the Rhymer to hold a curse on the castle until they are found. Pitmedden Garden is within easy travelling distance. Five miles of weaving geometric boxwood hedging, fountains and dripping orchards make this restoration-period restored garden a relaxing day out. Beach 25 miles. Shop and restaurant 100 yards, pub 1 mile.

These tastefully converted holiday cottages overlook the stunning Dee Valley in the Cairngorms National Park. Each with their own character, they are ideally situated for exploring the north east of Scotland. Victoria Cottage (Ref: RCHN152) is so named because of its association with Queen Victoria as the place where she first met John Brown; Byron (ref: RCHN150), because this was where the poet is said to have written ’Fair Morven’ and finally Fir Tree (ref: RCHN151), due to the planting of said tree next to the cottage. All are warm and comfortable and benefit from fine views to the front.
Aberdeenshire is a wonderful area to explore and has everything an outdoor enthusiast could wish for such as golf, horse riding, fishing, gliding, cycling and some fantastic walking in the Cairngorms. Ballater itself is a lovely village situated close to Balmoral and its famous castle. A short drive away is Lochnagar Distillery which is well worth a visit.
