Situated within the grounds of Craigievar Castle, these picture perfect holiday cottages are surrounded by 90-acres of parkland. The castle is a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture and has stood for almost four centuries against a backdrop of rolling hills. The great tower looks just as it did when it was completed in 1626. Inside is a fine collection of family portraits and original furniture. Stroll around the castles kitchen garden, or enjoy waymarked trails through the surrounding parkland, where swallows, fieldfares and redwings can be spotted. Alford, with its butchers, bakers, pubs and restaurants can be reached in an easy 15 minutes by car. Visit Alford Heritage Centre, which contains displays on village and farm life from the past. Most of the area is agricultural, and wildlife is abundant. Red squirrels and roe deer are a common sight in the woods, the elusive wildcat is present but rarely seen. Crathes Castle is less than 20 miles away and Aberdeen can be reached in 40 minutes’ drive.
