Find cottages in HuntlyVisit Huntly

The small town of Huntly and the surrounding area provides an excellent base for your cottage holiday in Aberdeenshire; ideal for exploring both the beaches of Moray Firth, and days out in the Cairngorms to the south.

Spend an afternoon exploring the ruins of the 12th century Huntly Castle and see the tapestries, artwork, furniture and china at Leith Hall dating to 1650. Brander Museum and Library also provides an insight into the town's history.

There are many attractive public parks and open spaces that provide entertainment for children and the whole family will be entertained at the award winning Peregrine Wildwatch. There is a falcon flying demonstration at the Falconry Centre, which also has a picnic area and cafe.

There are a number of pony trekking centres in the area, and treks are available along beautiful woodland trails. The starting point of Highland Horseback, Scotland's longest horse trail, is located nearby. It runs approximately 200 miles to the West coast of Scotland. Trout and salmon fishing are available on the Rivers Bogie and Deveron, whereas Nordic walking is available in Clashindarroch Forest. Walking, cycling and mountain biking are also popular.

Take the Huntly Food Trail and try out the local Aberdeen Angus steaks in one of the many local restaurants, the renowned shortbread biscuits of local Deans of Huntly and icecream from local producers Rizza's. Local whiskey can be sampled at the Duncan Taylor Whiskey Shop and at Glendronach Distillery.

Deveron Arts, the local arts organisation, is one of the most active in Scotland. It offers residences to visiting artists including painters, performing artists, photographers and sculptors from around the world. The Strathbogie Horticultural Society holds its annual show each August.

Choose from the many holiday cottages around Huntly, and book your holiday to Aberdeenshire today.

Preston Tower Ref: 30104

This impressive holiday apartment, reached by a spiral staircase, stretches across the Fyvie Castle’s Preston and Seton towers. It is decorated in a tastefully traditional style with turret rooms and cosy nooks for reading or just relaxing. The glorious silhouette of Fyvie Castle stands among hectares of landscaped parkland, steeped in centuries of history. Four floors of winding nooks and mezzanines, and rooms packed with antique furniture, make a stay at Fyvie feel like stepping into the life of a true Scottish Laird. Fyvie is a fairytale castle with over 800 years of history. Its huge handsome structure is a prime example of Scottish baronial architecture. Inside, elaborate wood panelling, suits of armour and tapestries symbolise the wealth and power of the castle’s succession of owners. The castle also contains an outstanding collection of art, including works by Raeburn and Gainsborough. From this property, try to find the missing weeping stones in the grounds, said by ancient prophet Thamas the Rhymer to hold a curse on the castle until they are found. Pitmedden Garden is within easy travelling distance. Five miles of weaving geometric boxwood hedging, fountains and dripping orchards make this restoration-period restored garden a relaxing day out. Beach 25 miles. Shop and restaurant 100 yards, pub 1 mile.

Spiral stairs to entrance. First floor: 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Bathroom with roll-top bath and toilet. Spiral stairs to second floor: 1 double bedroom. Spiral stairs to third floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen. Snug. Separate toilet. Spiral stairs to fourth floor: 1 twin bedroom. Spiral stairs to fifth floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Separate toilet. Spiral stairs to sixth floor: 1 single bedroom. Spiral stairs to seventh floor: 2 steps down to 1 twin bedroom.
