The Glen sits between the Galtee Mountains on the south and the Slievenamuck Ridge on the north and contains many prehistoric and early Christian sites of interest, including the holy wells of St Pecaun’s, Berriherts and Sedna’s. The Galtees, Ireland’s highest inland mountain range, boast five spectactular corrie lakes, dominated by a variety of magnificent peaks including Galteemore at 3,018ft. This expansive vista is further enhanced by the many streams cascading down the face of the mountain. The holiday properties are a great base from which to explore the neighbouring counties of Limerick, Cork and Waterford. Europe’s largest mountain biking trail network is only 24km away in the stunning Ballyhoura Mountains. The Old Barn (ref W31991) is a fantastic barn conversion sleeping a maximum of 4 people, and Timmy’s Cottage (ref W32124) was named after the owner’s grandfather and sleeps a maximum of 8 people. Your unique holiday experience begins with setting aside the car on the mainland (free parking) and taking the four-minute ferry crossing to the island. From here you can explore the island on foot or on bicycle. There is a grocery delivery service available, by prior arrangement, 3 times a week. There is a sandy beach, a sailing school, a bakery and bread school, and resident artists’ studios. There is no pub but there is a restaurant that’s widely known. There are fishing opportunities, boat trips to other islands or a pizza and pint evening in Baltimore. With ferries running every two hours from 8am until 6pm (sometimes later in summer), you can experience the delights of the mainland. Skibbereen is 8 miles.
