The Curragh and Punchestown racecourses are both within 20 miles, and there are some superb gardens to visit. Powerscourt Gardens, near Enniskerry, has formal gardens with fine views over the surrounding countryside, as well as the highest waterfall in Ireland. The village of Stradbally boasts a steam museum with a collection of fire engines, steam tractors and steam rollers, all lovingly restored. During the 3-day Steam Rally in early August the 40 hectares of Cosby Hall are taken over with all types of steam-operated machines and vintage cars. There are plenty of walks in the locality to suit all abilities, horse riding in Anamoe, golf, mountain biking and wildlife to be seen. Historic Glendalough is only 8 miles in Laragh and Dublin can be reached within an hour.
