Find cottages in NewportVisit Newport

Located in the heart of the Isle of Wight, Newport is the principal town of the island and a fashionable holiday destination, with plenty of historical attractions and outdoor activities perfectly suited to holidaying families, friends and couples.

Due to Newport's central position it is possibly to easily explore all corners of the island; from the Needles in the south west, to Cowes in the north, Bembridge in the east and Ventnor in the south.

The town has some lovely Georgian and Victorian architecture and two squares as well as a quay by the River Medina. For those interested in the island's rich heritage, the Museum of Island History offers a glimpse into the past, and the Quay Arts Centre, located in a converted 19th Century brewery warehouse, features art works and live performances relating to local culture.

Signs of Roman settlements are visible in Newport and two Roman Villas have been excavated which are open to the public. The Newport Roman Villa was built as a farmhouse in 280 AD and the site and museum are worth visiting.

The town's close proximity to the Rivers Solent and Medina mean that there are lots of activities available for those who enjoy water sports, and sailing, kayaking and swimming are particularly popular.

The Isle of Wight is perfect for anyone who enjoys scenic walks and leisurely cycles. The countryside is home to an abundance of wildlife and numerous bird and butterfly species are found in close proximity to the town.

To discover a glorious island town search for Newport holiday cottages today.
