Set in rolling rural countryside on the borders of Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire, yet only a short drive from the major motorway connections of the M40 (Junctions 10 and 11), The Hayloft and The Stalls (refs NAB & NAC) are adjoining barn conversions which lie on the edge of the Cotswolds. They offer spacious, light and airy holiday accommodation that is still warm, cosy and comfortable with wooden floors and a wood-burning stove. There are numerous established footpaths and bridle paths which criss-cross the area and take guests through some of the most picturesque countryside and landscapes. The nearby village of Aynho is famous for the apricot trees grown on the stone walls of the old houses. The historic market town of Banbury is close by, whilst Deddington (with a monthly farmers’ market), Chipping Norton, Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston-on-Stour give a more traditional view of the Cotswolds and the chance to stroll along the quaint high streets, stopping at one of the many tea shops and country inns for which the area is famous. Less than 30 minutes away lies Blenheim Palace, in the town of Woodstock, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and home of the Blenheim Horse Trials. In the opposite direction, why not sample Sulgrave Manor (ancestral home of the family of George Washington) or Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, situated next to a forest - or divert to shop at designer boutiques in the highly acclaimed Bicester Village Outlet Centre. A little farther afield, but still within easy driving distance, lie the university city of Oxford, the ancient town of Warwick, Leamington Spa and the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon. In the grounds surrounding the cottages, there are large open lawn areas to play and picnic, some BBQ areas, a tennis court and approach golf.
The cottages at Higher Poulston are made up of a cluster of lovely stone barn conversions of varying sizes(, the spacious period Farmhouse, which is fantastic for a large family and the newest addition, Wisteria House(ref 25998), a contemporary barn conversion with a stunning interior, accommodating up to 20 guests.
All the properties are comfortably furnished with leather sofas, pine or oak furniture, well equipped kitchens and modern bathrooms, making this a holiday to enjoy and remember.
The friendly owners live on site and are happy to help. Many visitors find themselves revisiting Higher Poulston year after year. This is a very family friendly holiday complex; the ideal place for mums and dads to relax in, children to have fun, and grandparents to join in too.
Set within its own 9½ acres of private land, tucked away along a quiet country lane and close to a working dairy farm. Away from the farm there are many interesting places to explore. There is a little tourist information room on site and in here you will find plenty of ideas for days out and about . For your local shopping, the little village of Harbertonford, 1 mile, has a small village shop, a pub and post office. Also, the village of Morleigh, 1 mile, has a pub serving food. The ancient town of Totnes, just 3 miles away, has a truly unique atmosphere, with a range of quirky independent shops and bistros and is a vibrant and interesting place to visit, especially on Fridays when the market comes to town.
The South Devon coastline is close at hand, has many beautiful beaches and coves, scenic walks and pretty villages including Blackpool Sands and Slapton. Enjoy a day out in the riverside marine town of Dartmouth and take a cruise along the river to Totnes or the ferry across to Kingswear, and the quaint fishing town of Brixham, then ride on the steam train to Paignton or Buckfastleigh. Within easy reach are the English Riviera resorts of Paignton and Torquay, the boating and sailing centre of Salcombe on the estuary and the historic town of Dartmouth, nestling on the banks of the River Dart. Woodlands Fun Park is a great tourist attraction and fun day out for families, as is Dartmoor National Park, with its hundreds of acres of wild rugged moorland, both about 4 miles away.
Close to Dartmouth you can play golf on an 18-hole championship course (Higher Poulston visitors receive a discount at Dartmouth golf and country club). Bike and kayak hire are available locally.

Just a mile or so from the beach and picturesque harbour at Lyme Regis, this attractive cluster of individually owned holiday cottages enjoys a peaceful setting in an area of exceptional natural beauty. Skilfully converted from a range of lovely old stone barns, they are surrounded by acres of pastures with abundant wildlife, including deer and badgers. Fitted and furnished to comfortable standards throughout, each holiday cottage is independently owned and has its own sunny patio at the front with peaceful and uninterrupted views over a picturesque pond and the countryside beyond. A lovely riverside walk leads to historic Lyme Regis, passing through wonderful countryside with no roads to mar the views. The rolling farmland scenery is easily enjoyed via the 28-mile network of local footpaths and bridleways, including the World Heritage Dorset Coastal Path (½ mile) and its spectacular Jurassic coast.
Accessible within 4 minutes by car or via a walk over fields and along the riverbank, Lyme Regis is one of England’s most memorable small towns. It is famous as the setting for both the story and film of The French Lieutenant’s Woman, with its harbour bright with boats, streets of elegant colour-washed buildings, lofty cliffs and a great sweep of sea. Inns, restaurants and a choice of shops can be found amongst the town’s attractive jumble of narrow streets, and it is a notable water sports centre. Motor boats can be hired, and there are fishing trips, a sailing school and club, and a wind-surfing school. There is also a sports complex at Axminster (4 miles) which offers swimming and other facilities. For nature lovers, the area has some of the most diverse scenery in the country: Lyme Bay sweeps round from the National Nature Reserve on the Dowlands Cliffs in an uninterrupted arc along the huge bank of shingle that is Chesil Beach, all the way to the limestone slab of the Isle of Portland. The 626-ft Golden Cap, is a breathtaking viewpoint and part of a lovely 2,000-acre NT estate, it is the highest point on England’s south coast, which is a World Heritage Site. An easy drive to Bridport, Honiton, Sidmouth, Exeter and Dorchester. For families there are many lovely beaches close at hand, and a theme park (Crealy Park) near Exeter. Lyme Regis golf course is within half a mile and visitors are welcome to use the golf course, or to simply visit their bar and restaurant. Each cottage has a comprehensive information folder giving details of local pubs, restaurants, shops, walks, excursions and includes many interesting facts about Lyme Regis and finding fossils along the Jurassic coast.
