Find cottages in YorkshireVisit Yorkshire

The county of Yorkshire has a lot to offer visitors with a varied landscape of dales, moors and coast, a rich historical heritage, fascinating cities, market towns and picturesque villages. Yorkshire has a very distinctive character and is rightly considered one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Once you arrive in Yorkshire you'll see why it's called 'God's Own County'. Take for example the wild, beautiful expanse of the Yorkshire Dales, which actually consists of lots of different Dales each with their own unique character, covering in total some 554 square miles of heather moorland, rich pasture land, and characterful Dale's villages and of course dry stone walls. Much of this area is protected and forms the famous Dales National Park; the perfect place for walking and cycling amongst some of Britain's most stunning landscapes.

To the east is another National Park; The North York Moors National Park extends all the way to the Yorkshire coast. This is a place of wide open spaces and wind swept heather moorland, an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways as well as hidden valleys where you'll discover pretty villages. It's also home to the North Yorkshire Moors Steam railway which runs from Pickering to Whitby (and back) and is a great day out for both adults and children.

The Yorkshire coast has been attracting holidaymakers since Victorian times and is renowned for its pretty fishing villages and bustling coastal resorts such as Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Here you'll find family friendly clean sandy beaches and plenty of activities for visitors of all ages. The picturesque town of Whitby clusters around its fishing harbour where fishing boats and pleasure cruisers come and go. High above the town Whitby Abbey dominated the skyline and can be reached with a vigorous walk up some 199 steps.

To the south are the family resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Scarborough has two lovely horseshoe bays with golden sands and plenty to offer families and couples looking for a traditional seaside break. Filey and Bridlington also have lovely beaches and coastal promenades.

And there's plenty more to Yorkshire including the wonderfully historical city of York, internationally renowned for its medieval architecture that includes one of the finest buildings in Europe; York Minster. Then there's the Yorkshire Wolds; a quiet and peaceful place of undulating countryside and market towns. To the south of the region in West Yorkshire is Bronte Country and its dramatic brooding open moorlands and of course connections with the Bronte sisters.

Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Yorkshire.

"Winner of the Yorkshire Tourist Board’s Self-Catering Holiday of the Year Award four times so quality is assured... indoor pool and sauna . . . delightful location on edge of National Park. . ."

Beech Farm Cottages offer award winning standards of quality and facilities in a quiet village setting at the gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors. The pretty cluster of eight cottages, four of which are featured here, not only have ‘4 Star’ or ‘5 Star’ accommodation, but also have additional features such as an indoor heated swimming pool and sauna, gardens, sun terrace, paddock, children’s play area, two llamas, ponies, chickens and ducks. Beech Farm Cottages have a Gold Award from VisitEngland for their ‘exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service,’ have won the Yorkshire Holiday Cottage of the Year four times and they also have a ‘Green Tourism’ award.
The cottages are set around a pretty courtyard and gardens backing onto open fields. Converted from Grade II listed stone buildings, they retain much of the original charm and character, with beams throughout. The interiors are superbly finished, furnished and equipped and the three larger cottages are rated ‘5 Star’ by the VisitEngland. The indoor heated swimming pool for the exclusive use of visitors to Beech Farm, has a sauna and spa. All the holiday cottages enjoy the shared use of a walled garden, sun terrace, paddock, children’s play area, barbecue area and two llamas, ponies, chickens and ducks in the field.

The small village of Wrelton - listed in the Domesday book - is on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, which has over 500 sq miles of moorland and forests, and there are country and woodland walks which start in the village. Walking, golf, riding, fishing and numerous village pubs and restaurants are all available within a few miles. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway runs from the picturesque market town of Pickering just three miles away. Pickering also has a castle and museum as well as pubs, shops and a range of restaurants. The delights of the seaside are only just over half an hour’s drive away where unspoilt sandy beaches (Runswick Bay, Filey), historic fishing ports (Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay) and resort attractions (Scarborough) can be found. The walled city of York with its minster, museums and historic centre is within 40 minutes’ drive. Other local attractions include Castle Howard, Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, and Rievaulx Abbey. Shops 2 miles.
