Find cottages in Saltburn-by-the-SeaVisit Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Saltburn by the Sea is a delightfully relaxed seaside resort that has retained much of the charm that made it a favourite of holidaymakers in Victorian England.

Many fine examples of Victorian architecture can still be found in Saltburn by the Sea, giving the town a quaint but still somehow regal feel. The cliff tramway, the oldest of its type in Britain, links the town itself with Saltburn Pier on the lower promenade. The pier itself is another survivor from the Victorian era and has undergone extensive restoration work in recent years. Running from the sea front to the Italian Gardens and a delightful woodland walk is the Saltburn Miniature Railway, a fun way of travelling along the promenade on a beautiful sunny day.

Saltburn by the Sea's maritime legacy is exemplified by the near 500-year old Ship Inn, a former haunt of smugglers that used to populate the area. The pub still has original timbers and an open coal fire and is known for its delicious food. The Ship Inn is just one of many pubs in Saltburn, which also has a number of cafes and restaurants.

To experience the charm of an authentic Victorian seaside resort on the North Sea coast, close to coastal walks and perfect for touring the Yorkshire coastline to the south and the North York Moors a short distance inland, take a look at Saltburn by the Sea holiday cottages today.

Kilifi Ref: CC243072
Kilifi is a luxury Grade II listed Victorian end of terrace property. It is situated just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the Victorian seaside resort of Saltburn. It has been extravagantly furnished and decorated to a particularly high standard and offers every home from home comfort, ideal for families and couples that are looking to explore this stunning coast line.  The delightful promenade boasts stunning views of Huntcliff and is home to its very own water powered cliff lift, which dates back to 1884. Also on the promenade is Saltburn’s famous pier, the most northerly surviving and recently extended pier in Britain, which has also been recently known as the main target of the knitting craze known as ’Yarn Bombing’. Both of which are perfect for a leisurely stroll on a fine evening, or sunny afternoon. There are lots of activities in Saltburn including surfing, fishing, golf and swimming. You can also enjoy horse riding by taking a trek across the beach. Recently opened is Saltburn’s Art Bank, a custom built gallery housing the latest works of local artists, sculptors and craftsmen, or if you prefer the Theatre, there is plenty to enjoy at Saltburn’s community theatre which hosts many events from screen plays to comedy nights. Both are within walking distance and less than 250 yards. The historic town of Whitby is definitely worth a day out; you can sample its famous fish and chips or visit the stunning Abbey! It can be accessed both by car, and from the pretty cobbled streets in the old town via the famous 199 steps. You could also walk from Whitby along the 3 miles of golden sands up the coast to the pretty resort of Sandsend. The picture postcard villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are also worthy of a days outing. You could also enjoy the experience of the North Yorkshire Moors steam train, which meanders through the moors villages of Grosmont, Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the TV series Heartbeat) and Levisham en route from Whitby to the lively market town of Pickering.
