Find cottages in IngletonVisit Ingleton

Nestled right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Ingleton is well known for its caving and walking, but it's also a great cottage holiday base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and has easy access north into Cumbria and west into Lancashire for days out.

Head for White Scar Cave or Ingleborough Cave (both less than two miles away) for a spot of easy exploring; both caves offer fully guided tours (check for details). Other caves in the area such as Gaping Gill will require caving experience and equipment. There is plenty of relaxing road cycling routes in the area or for something a bit more energetic, you'll find beginner and Intermediate mountain biking trails starting in the village.

This is also perfect walking country and close by is the famous three peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent. These are quite strenuous walks but well worth the effort for the spectacular views. But if you prefer something less energetic there are plenty of easier walks available within the area.

Just to the North West over the Cumbrian border lies the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and to the south is Settle; which are both worth visiting during your stay. Hop aboard the famous Settle to Carlisle railway for wonderful days out travelling along one of Britain's most scenic railway lines.

Head for Ingleton Pottery, the longest established pottery in the Yorkshire Dales, where you can take a workshop tour or view demonstrations (by appointment ) and take home some pieces including tableware and lamps which will make great gifts.

Dining out in Ingleton is a cosy affair, with a number of traditional inns and pubs serving home- cooked Yorkshire food, as well as quaint coffee shops and takeaways. For accommodation in this beautiful area search holiday cottages in Ingleton.

Highfield House Ref: 29695

Dating back to the 1800s, this substantial, terraced, stone-built house has had a colourful history starting life as a barn, before becoming a blacksmiths, village confectioners shop and now finally a holiday home. It has been lovingly and sympathetically restored by the owners who have successfully managed to retain its original charm with a touch of urban chic. Given its central village location, Highfield House is unusually spacious, with two reception rooms, huge bathroom, contemporary balcony leading to a sunny patio garden with views of the Yorkshire Dales. Garden furniture and a barbecue is provided. The property also benefits from off road parking for 2 cars, again quite rare for a village centre property. Beautifully decorated and well appointed, it provides comfortable accommodation in the heart of Ingleton, one of North Yorkshire’s most popular villages and is the ideal base from which to explore the Lake District and North Yorkshire National Parks. Year round local attractions include the caves and waterfalls, however the village also hosts many events and festivals throughout the year, including the 3 Peaks Challenge, walking festivals and motor cycle rallies, making it an interesting place to visit any time of year. The village has lots of shops, pubs and cafes, as well as a climbing wall, outdoor pool and reputedly the best fish and chips in Yorkshire! The village lies on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales and the boundary of the National Park runs along the end of the garden, so it is perfect for walkers, climbers, cavers and cyclists. Activities available locally include guided walks, canoeing, climbing, caving, potholing and mountain biking (cycle hire is available locally). You can even go hang gliding off Ingleborough, one of the famous 3 Peaks which dominates the local landscape. Other places of interest nearby include the market towns of Hawes, 16 miles, Kirkby Lonsdale, 7 miles, and Dent, 10 miles. The Settle to Carlisle railway is also very popular and the nearest station is Clapham, which is just 5 miles away. Should you wish to venture out of Yorkshire it is just a 30-minute drive to the Lake District, and Lancashire’s Ribble Valley and the Forest of Bowland, an AONB, can both be reached in under an hour. Village shops and restaurant 150 yards, pub 20 yards.

Ground floor: Living room with wooden floor. Dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, one (5ft four poster) with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.
