Find cottages in BromptonVisit Brompton

The village of Brompton has a delightful rural location east of Richmond and on the edge of the beautiful North York Moors National Park, offering access to some of Yorkshire's most stunning landscapes.

More accurately known as Brompton on Swale, the village lies on the northern bank of the River Swale; one of the fastest flowing rivers in the country. Its history can be traced back to medieval times and is named in the 'Doomesday Book', with wide streets and houses that originally were of thatch and timber, but now built of stone and river cobbles; however it still retains a traditional village centre of great character.

In and around the village and within the wider area you will find plenty of scenic walking and cycling trails, including pleasant riverside walks and opportunities to fish or picnic. And after you've built up an appetite you could sample the local food and drink at one of the local inns.

Brompton is perfectly placed for exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales, including the historic town of Richmond a short distance to the west. To the east is the rugged North York Moors, an area of sweeping heather moorland and rural villages. The magnificent Yorkshire coast, with its picturesque fishing villages like Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are all within reach for great days out.

To see accommodation in this lovely area, see our selection of holiday cottages in Brompton and the surrounding area.
