Dalby Forest hosts lots of other attractions such as Go Ape and special events for children, like the fungal forays and bug hunts as well as outdoor concerts in the summer, you can spend a few days in the forest with different activities each day and still not have covered the whole area. Just 3 miles inland you will find the town of Pickering, famous for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can catch the steam train and ride through the fantastic North York Moors to Goathland (Heartbeat Country) and Whitby. Every year Pickering hosts the War weekend where the whole town becomes a huge set from the Second World War. Relive the amazing spirit and camaraderie of WW2. In less than an hour you have the medieval city of York with the fantastic Minster and city walls. York is also accessible by bus from the cottage. The east coast is 15 miles away, where you have the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, all with fantastic beaches for children. Don’t forget the RSPB cliffs at Bempton, where you will see the puffins in their natural habitat.
