The cottages are maintained to very high standards. All have leather sofas, flatscreen digital TVs and very comfortable mattresses - the owners consider a good night’s sleep the most important thing! The cottages either have Italian tiled floors or wooden floors, and some still retain many original features including oak beamed ceilings. The properties cater for almost any party size, sleeping from 4 to 28 people and are all rated either 4 or 5 stars. Ashcombe’s larger cottages provide great value for money for visitors sharing with their friends and families. For meals, an in-house chef can be booked to come and do the hard work. At the end of the day the Ashcombe Village Club provides cheap beer and a cheerful atmosphere.
Both Dartmoor National Park and the historic city of Exeter are only 20 minutes’ drive away while the famous South Devon Coast, with wonderful sandy beaches, is barely 3 miles. Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses, several golf courses, loads of family theme parks, zoos, sailing and fishing are all within easy reach, not to mention the many excellent pubs and restaurants that Devon is famous for. The wild beauty of Dartmoor is 20 minutes away with its abundance of wildlife and dramatic landscapes. Numerous National Trust properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with bustling boat harbour, castle, contemporary art galleries and boutiques. Salcombe with its beaches, sailing and water sports is also easily accessible, as well as Blackpool Sands, Slapton and picturesque Dittisham with its annual crab catching competition.

Slightly further afield, East Cornwall and the Eden Project are within an hour’s drive. Take a walk along the South West Coast Path which runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast and offers the walker stunning views, with a bird’s eye view of many coastal features. From the coast path you can experience the drama of sheer cliff faces, take in the wonderful towns of Beer, the ‘picture postcard’ fishing village, or Budleigh Salterton. This tranquil and historic seaside town nestles on the edge of a pebble beach beneath spectacular red cliffs, made famous by literary giants such as Noel Coward, P.G. Wodehouse and Anthony Trollope. Visit Seaton with its famous trams or Sidmouth which still has a unique charm and has captivated thousands of holidaymakers. The Tudor part of the beautiful former vicarage has been renovated whilst retaining original character, to provide spacious holiday accommodation close to the coastal regions of West Somerset. The Gatehouse is an attractive two storey holiday home which is within the Rossholme grounds. The cottages are situated in 5 acres of lawns and landscaped gardens, with shared use of a hard tennis court and outdoor heated swimming pool during the summer months. Each property has a barbecue area and views over open countryside. A function room seating 60 is available on site by prior arrangement with the owner, and catering can be arranged. East Brent lies at the foot of Brent Knoll, a 450ft high hill that has the remains of an ancient Celtic camp on its summit with views of the Quantocks, Bridgwater Bay, the Bristol Channel, the Mendips and South Wales. With easy access to the M5, the village is only minutes from the coast; Weston-Super-Mare and Sand Bay have sandy beaches and family attractions, whilst the smaller resorts of Clevedon and Burnham on Sea retain an atmosphere of a bygone era. Axbridge is 5 miles, and the caves and gorge at Cheddar, 6 miles. For walking and cycling, the Quantocks, the Mendips, the Somerset Levels and Exmoor are close by. Shop 1 mile, pub 600 yards.

Occupying a superb position with wonderful rural views, yet within a mile or so of Cheltenham’s elegant town centre, these delightful holiday cottages have been created from a range of 19th-century barns and are furnished and equipped to high standards. All cottages enjoy a good choice of shared facilities including a covered heated swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court and a croquet lawn. The cottages are well equipped, with an automatic washing machine, microwave oven and dishwasher, and each cottage has its own sitting out area with patio and furniture.
All the fascinating corners of the beautiful Regency spa town of Cheltenham are immediately to hand: there is an art gallery, a museum, tempting boutiques, antique shops, plentiful restaurants and inns. Only a short walk away is Cheltenham’s racecourse, famous as the home of National Hunt Racing, which stages the Cheltenham Festival in March, as well as several other top quality race meetings between October and the end of April. The Pittville Pump Room, a magnificent Grade I listed building opened in 1830, has a museum on its top floor. In the ballroom it is possible to taste spa water from the original pump. Historic illustrations, photographs and small displays tell the story of Cheltenham from its beginnings in Anglo-Saxon times. The building is surrounded by attractive parkland with a lake and children’s playground, public tennis courts and golf course. Standing proudly at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, on the edge of the glorious Northumberland National Park and only 15 miles from the alternating sands and rocks of the coastline, Akeld Manor cottages offer the perfect setting for a holiday in England’s fascinating and beautiful Border country. The gracious Manor House and its cluster of cottages and mellow stone buildings have been sensitively renovated and converted to create an outstanding collection of holiday properties – all with shared use of a superb choice of facilities. A leisure building houses a wide range of amenities (available daily, all the year round) which include an indoor heated swimming pool with changing and shower facilities, a Jacuzzi and sauna. There is a well-equipped multi-gym, too, and the first floor of the building features a large games room (with pool table, table tennis and football game) and a separate snooker room with full-size antique table. The cottages are set in acres of shared grounds, which offer space for relaxing and for children to play, and they lie within 2 miles of the shops and inns at Wooler.
The Northumberland National Park stretches south through Kielder and Wark Forests as far as Hadrian’s Wall, and north to the Scottish border. Long stretches of sand can be found lining the coast south of Berwick-upon-Tweed (16 miles). At Beal (13 miles), the road to Holy Island runs gently down to the shore, where it becomes a causeway covered and impassable at high tide.
These quaint cottages, some of which have originally been cartsheds and byres are charmingly set in small groups within the spacious and colourful grounds. The large Manor House (which provides accommodation for parties of 15), also has a splendid large walled garden allowing total privacy. The setting of these cosy cottages is intriguing, many with small courtyards and gardens, a truly interesting and imaginative conversion full of detail and character – the individual and tasteful interiors are delightful. This attractive, detached, former farmworker’s cottage is one of a separate group, about 150 yards from the courtyard, completely renovated and refurbished to offer comfortable accommodation on two floors. Shared outdoor heated swimming pool and multi-gym

The Morland Estate provides 21 bedrooms across four substantial properties (refs 28497, 28498, 28499 and 28500) which can be booked together or individually. The properties have been beautifully restored and furnished and are situated within 15 acres of ancient woods and parkland in the glorious rolling countryside of the Eden Valley in Cumbria. The stunning and tranquil setting is very magical and is an ideal venue for groups of friends and families gathering together to celebrate that important anniversary, birthday, celebration, reunion or get-together. The Hall and Coach House both have a civil license for weddings and it is a location simply made for New Year and Christmas gatherings. Self-catered or with outside catering, you can create a party that you and your friends and family will never forget.
These four beautifully presented holiday cottages have excellent facilities and comfort. Built in 1861, the main house fell into decline after the Second World War, but has now happily been restored to its former glory by the present owners, to provide a splendid large hall, along with two spacious and extremely comfortable holiday properties adjoining the main house, and, further up the drive, the large and elegant detached Coach House. Within close proximity of The Coach House, in an attractive sheltered area, is the shared outdoor heated swimming pool and an adjacent gym. With very good access to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Morland Hall Estate makes for an excellent holiday destination.
Just 8 miles away lies the attractive market town of Appleby, once the county town of Westmorland, and renowned for its famous Horse Fair held in June of each year since 1750. Passing through the town, the Settle to Carlisle railway offers visitors the chance to relax and enjoy wonderful scenery as it runs over the famous 24-arched Ribblehead Viaduct before descending two hundred feet in five miles. Slightly further to the north of Appleby, the traditional, bustling market town of Penrith, gateway to Ullswater, can be found. Whether your interests be walking, climbing, fishing, golf, nature, history, art, literature or just relaxing and touring the pretty sandstone villages of Eden and the spectacular and contrasting scenery of the Lakes and Dales, you will find plenty to do and see. Set in the heart of Thomas Hardy country, just a short drive to the stunning Jurassic coastline and the seaside town of Weymouth with promenade and sandy beach. The Sealife Centre, Monkey World, Tank Museum and Abbotsbury Swannery are all nearby. The Purbeck Heritage coastline is a short drive, and includes the beaches at Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Studland and Warbarrow Bay. There are a number of charming villages such as Corfe with its medieval castle (NT). Swanage is a typical seaside town with its Blue Flag beach, boat trips, shops, pubs and restaurants and Durlston Country Park. It also boasts Swanage Steam Railway - the perfect way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery along the 6-mile track. The walled Saxon town of Wareham, with its weekly market, shops and quayside is also worth a visit. Shop, pub and restaurant on site.

Tucked away in a peaceful and secluded village setting, these five comfortably furnished holiday cottages are set in an idyllic location, only 5 miles from the spectacular Bamburgh Castle and one of the longest sandy beaches in England, and within a few minutes’ drive of Seahouses, where regular boat trips depart for the Farne Islands. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through the beautiful countryside with its numerous castles, stately homes and NT properties. Furnished to a high standard, and close to the owners’ home, Fordson offers single-storey accommodation and Ferguson is a detached two-storey cottage. The Mill House stands as a detached converted barn, with Waren View and The Granary Cottage forming an adjoining pair. This is an ideal choice for family holidays, with use of a very pleasant lawned area by a stream where visitors can enjoy barbecues. There is also shared use of the owners’ hard tennis court nearby.
Warenford Village serves as an excellent base from which to discover Northumberland and the Scottish border country. Just 4 miles distant lies Budle Bay, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an SSSI, with the ancient walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) and the Duchess of Northumberland’s ornamental gardens a short drive away. Created to rival the best in Europe, the gardens are contemporary in design and include waterfalls and cascading plumes set within landscaped grounds with themed planted areas. Also sure to delight both young and old alike is a visit to neighbouring Alnwick Castle, which served as the location for the Harry Potter films. Home of the Percy family, it stands as the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle, with some of its rooms open to the public and displaying a wealth of decorative and fine art.
Within easy reach, too, is Holy Island – renowned for its medieval religious heritage, priory and picturesque castle – and also known by its Anglo-Saxon name of Lindisfarne. Accessed by a paved causeway at low tide, the island is popular with bird-watchers and nature lovers, with the north-western portion of the island being maintained as a nature reserve, where terns, plovers and seals can be observed. Whilst on the island, a trip to The Museum of Island Life will reveal former living and working conditions there, and St Aidan’s Winery tempts visitors with its sweet concoction of local Lindisfarne Mead.
There are quiet country lanes for cycling and several excellent golf courses nearby, as well as a selection of shops in Belford (3 miles) and good inns and restaurants in which to enjoy a family meal locally – the nearest pub with restaurant being just 30 yards.
Guests may relax in our recently developed indoor swimming pool and sauna or work out in the gym, built close to the cottages. Shop/24-hr garage 1 mile.
