Find cottages in HastingsVisit Hastings

From ghost walks and galleries, to museums and medieval cellars; there's plenty for the whole family to see and do in Hastings.

At the time of the Norman Conquests Hastings was a small fishing and trading port; today it consists of the Old Town with half-timbered houses and narrow passageways, a bustling town centre and the elegant St. Leonards district with its antique shops and galleries. To learn more about the town's history visit The Fisherman's Museum and the Maritime Museum.

There are numerous seafood restaurants in this seafaring town and a fantastic fish market, to see some more unusual marine life; pay a call at Blue Reef Aquarium. You can see Hastings' heritage come to life at Smugglers Adventure in St Clements Caves and below, is Pelham Beach.

For a heathland hike, head for Hastings Country Park, which can be reached by the East Hill Lift, the steepest funicular railway in Britain. To glimpse Hastings past visit Yesterday's World; this attraction is home to more than 10,000 genuine historical artefacts and you can wander through Victorian streets or revisit the psychedelic seventies. If history is your thing, you can visit the castle, the museum and even go on an Old Town Ghost Walk.

Just outside Hastings, you'll find historic Winchelsea where you can book on a 'cellar tour'! There are 56 medieval cellars in Winchelsea, built in the 13th Century and used mainly to service the wine trade with Gascony. You might even be lucky enough to be in Hastings during the annual re-enactment of its famous Battle, where there'll also be authentic period crafts and living history encampments.

Immerse yourself in historic Hastings; search Hastings cottages today.

Just a stone’s throw away from the top of the West Hill in Hastings, this attractive, semi-detached townhouse offers well-thought-out holiday accommodation and an underground gated parking space. From the garden you can even enjoy views of the sea! The ruins of Hastings Castle can be glimpsed from one of the bedroom windows – Britain’s first Norman castle, built in 1086 by Duke William of Normandy after his success at The Battle of Hastings in 1066 which in fact took place some 6 miles to the northwest. From the top of the West Hill, guests can see France on a clear day and look down on the old narrow streets and rooftops of Hastings Old Town. The South Downs at Eastbourne and Beachy Head can be seen in the distance. There are many caves on the West Hill, which, rumour has it, were all used by smugglers to store contraband from Europe. Visit St Clements Caves, which are about ½ mile away and discover the smugglers of 200 years ago that frequented the area. The Old Town with its antique shops, book dealers, boutiques and café culture offers a bohemian atmosphere and can be easily accessed via the West Hill Cliff Funicular Railway, which takes you straight down into the town, also offering access to the beach. There is access via steps for the more athletic! The East Hill lift operates from Hastings Country Park to The Stade, where the fishing fleet is launched from the beach and the iconic net huts can be seen. Rye and Camber Sands are a short drive away. Good rail connections from Hastings to London. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with bi-folding doors/kitchen. Separate toilet. Wooden floors throughout. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft), 1 twin. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Second floor: 1 double bedroom with sloping ceiling and en-suite shower room with toilet.
