Southwold is the quintessential seaside resort with a lovely beach, colourful beach huts and quirky pier; just perfect for a cottage holiday.

It's easy to see why when you take in the timeless charm of this village, its imposing 15th century church, boutique shops and well-kept houses. It also has more than its fair share of excellent places to eat including award-winning pubs, delis and restaurants. Seek out a bargain in Southwold's many antique, curio and gift shops.

Take a stroll on the iconic Southwold Pier, with its collection of vintage slot machines, and make time to see the famous Performing Water Clock with its tower of quirky abstract figures or just a hop away is the Adnam's brewery, where the highly-recommended guided tour includes a tasting of some of its legendary beers and a bottle to take home too.

Don't worry if you get the feeling you've seen Southwold before as you probably have! It's a favourite location spot for TV and movie companies as well as featuring on many an artist's canvas.

Ideal for coast or country

Located just 550 yards from Southwold’s beach with views of ‘Mr Mentor’s Lighthouse’ in ’Sunny Sands’, featured in the BBC’s ‘Grandpa In My Pocket’. There are views of St Edmund’s church from the front and of water meadows and marshes to the rear. This spacious 1930s house provides free wi-fi and parking for two small cars. It is ideal accommodation for a family holiday in relaxing Southwold, previously voted the UK’s most quintessential beach resort in 2007. Enjoy the beach with its colourful beach huts for hire, pier, high quality shops, restaurants and local pub, or visit the local brewery and distillery. For the more active there are walks across the heathland common to the harbour and its famous fish and chips on the Blackshore, also available locally are golf, sailing and tennis. Take a trip across the harbour by the rowing boat ferry to Walberswick (for crabbing) on the Suffolk Heritage Coast and return via the footbridge. Other local attractions include RSPB Minsmere, Dunwich Heath (NT), the magnificent Blythburgh church and Snape Maltings concert hall. Further inland are the pleasant market towns of Halesworth with its art centre and Framlingham with its 12th century castle. Easy access to ’The Broads’ at Beccles and Oulton Broad. Shop 330 yards, pub 220 yards.
