You'll be spoilt for choice with so many places to go, whether you are looking for relaxation, exhilaration, things to do or a delightful view. In fact, Staffordshire has more packed into its compact size than almost any other county.

Take for example Alton Towers, one of the world's top theme parks for white-knuckle rides. The award-winning Drayton Manor Park offers fun for all the family, or perhaps the Waterworld aqua park at Etruria. You could wind down a gear and explore the region's canal network, dotted with fascinating remnants of industrial history. Take a look at the lovingly restored Churnet Valley Railway and take a nostalgic ride on a steam train, or enjoy steam transport on a smaller scale with the narrow gauge Rudyard Lake Steam Railway.

The county is most famous for its pottery, especially Wedgwood, and there are plenty of Staffordshire holiday cottages conveniently close to places like the Wedgwood Museum or the Gladstone Pottery Museum at Stoke on Trent. Enjoy an intoxicating visit to the National Brewery Centre at Burton upon Trent to learn about the county's legendary beers. You could even experience a little animal magic; just visit the Trentham Monkey Forest, Blackbrook Zoo or a nature reserve such as the Wolseley Centre, Ipstones Edge or George's Hayes.

This detached holiday cottage is adjacent to the owners’ home and occupies a wonderful situation just inside the Peak District National Park known as the White Peak, which features much softer rolling countryside than the more craggy and dramatic Dark Peak, and is the glorious setting for this charming cottage. Forming part of the hamlet of Onecote and set just away from its centre, Honeysuckle Cottage can thereby enjoy its community facilities, but at the same time is far enough away to safeguard its privacy. Not surprisingly, there are splendid views all around and short and long walks abound. Stabling and grazing are also available by arrangement with owner. The property is ideally placed for exploring the Churnet Valley, Biddulph Grange Gardens and the famous Alton Towers theme park. At Froghall Wharf in Stoke-on-Trent you can take a canal boat trip on the Cauldon Canal or visit the famous Wedgewood Potteries visitor’s centre. The stately home of Chatsworth House and many other NT properties are also within easy reach. Onecote is a small village which serves as a centre for a farming community scattered around and above the upper valley of the River Hamps in the south west of the Peak District. The houses are attractively built in the local sandstone, with the Georgian-style church at the centre of the village. There is also good access onto the uplands of Morridge, which offer superb views across the to the south west of the Peaks, particularly The Roaches, Ramshsawe Rocks and Tittesworth and sunsets from up here can be spectacular. This truly magnificent famhouse is perched on the edge of the beautiful Manifold Valley, famed for its lime-stone crags and caves. Approached by a farm drive, nestling in a secluded spot, it enjoys breathtaking valley views. Very well furnished and equipped, its history is impressive - its date-stone pin-points the farmhouse’s origin at 1810, however, field name documents reach as far back as the 13th century. At Wetton Mill in the Manifold Valley amidst some staggering scenery, a cycle trail, closed to traffic for most of its route, follows the line of a narrow-gauge railway, (which ran from the turn of the century until the 1930s) and a river for some seven miles - even passing through the old railway tunnel.
