If you can tear yourself away from exploring Somerset's past there's a lot more to explore. Longleat Safari Park is just one of the many animal attractions in the area, but you can also get up close and personal with magnificent shire horses birds of prey and marine life.

Set on the edge of the bustling village of High Littleton in rolling Somerset countryside, Penny Cottage dates back to 1860. This holiday hideaway lies just nine miles from the centre of Bath , the jewel of Southwest England, and ten miles from Bristol with its scores of cultural and historical attractions. The terraced cottage was christened during renovations, when the owners found a couple of old pennies under the floorboards. This is superb walking, riding and mountain biking country, within easy reach of the glories of Exmoor National Park including Watersmeet, a wooded gorge with beautiful walks, where the East Lyn river meets Hoaroak Water; the famous resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, linked by a unique cliff railway; the remarkable limestone pinnacles and cliff drops at Valley of the Rocks; the quaint village of Porlock and waterfront at Polock Weir; Dunster Castle; and Dunkery Hill, the highest point on the moor. Taunton and the resort of Minehead are both about 13 miles distant. A shop and pub serving food are under 1 mile away in the pretty village of Bicknoller, from where steep paths lead to stunning views from the ridge.
