Begin your visit to Somerset by exploring some of the area's rich heritage, starting off with the enigmatic Glastonbury Tor. Sitting high above the land like a beacon, it holds stories of the legends of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. At the base of the Tor lie the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, set in 36 acres of beautiful parkland and ponds it's the perfect destination for a family day out. There's an abundance of historical places in the region so take the time to explore as many as possible, especially Wells Cathedral and the Roman Baths and its museum.

If you can tear yourself away from exploring Somerset's past there's a lot more to explore. Longleat Safari Park is just one of the many animal attractions in the area, but you can also get up close and personal with magnificent shire horses birds of prey and marine life.

From the open expanses of gardens and ancient oak woodlands to sparkling rivers and sandy beaches, Somerset is a haven for lovers of the great outdoors. There are some great natural wonders to explore and with its steep inclines, dramatic peaks and amazing views, Cheddar Gorge makes an ideal location for walkers, climbers, cavers and sightseers alike. In a historic cobbled courtyard, the cottages have an individual layout and are presented and furnished to a very comfortable standard. Sitting on the edge of a deep valley with wonderful views over the countryside, the cottages lie between the villages of Exford and Wheddon Cross, both offering shops and pubs. Follow the River Barle up to Withypool, or a short car journey away is Exmoor’s highest point at Dunkery Beacon. Looking towards Minehead, there is the promenade to enjoy a walk and an ice cream, as well as having a good array of shops. Minehead is also the start point of the south west coastal path which offers challenging yet very rewarding walks. The Victorian villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, famous for the Watersmeet gorge, Valley of Rocks and famous cliff railway are nearby. Dunster with its beach and castle, Porlock Weir, Bossington and Selworthy all make an interesting day out. The West Somerset Railway is well worth a visit. Shop 2½ miles and pub 1½ miles.

Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel, Yenworthy Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen. Two traditional barns in the courtyard of the farm have been sympathetically converted to offer a very high standard of accommodation throughout.
Yenworthy is ideal for walkers - a rugged pathway leads from the farm down to a secluded beach and there is direct access to one of the most scenic sections of the South West Coast Path. There are 13 miles of footpaths to explore on the farm itself and it even has its own historic monument - an old Roman Fort at Old Burrow. A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest and rare species of butterflies and trees. The nearest sandy beach is Lee Abbey (5 miles) and there are excellent surfing beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton within easy driving distance. There are three pubs with restaurants within 3 miles and plenty of shops in Lynton and Lynmouth
(4 miles), Polock (7 miles), Minehead (13 miles) and Barnstaple (21 miles), which also has a popular covered market. River fishing and grazing for horses are available by arrangement. Shops 4 miles.

In a setting of stunning natural beauty in the Exmoor National Park, with indoor heated swimming pool, Triscombe Farm Country Cottages are a combination of 19th century cottages and skilful conversions from existing farm buildings. Leisure facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, games room and all-weather tennis court (please bring your own racquets and balls). Natural water is provided from our own spring. With unspoilt countryside all around, and reached by a long, sweeping driveway, the country cottages are nestling in a sheltered, wooded valley overlooking the River Quarme. Each of the cottages has been individually styled and equipped to offer comfortable holiday accommodation.

The cottages make the perfect base for holidays at any time of the year. There are five acres of lovely gardens for you to enjoy and explore. A stream cascades through the hillside garden, there is ample space in which to sit and relax, or enjoy a family picnic or barbecue. Spectacular views across the valley to Dunkery Beacon unfold as you wander around. Badgers, buzzards, foxes, red deer and an abundance of birdlife can often be seen, so don’t forget your binoculars. From Triscombe Farm you can explore the magic of Exmoor, an area of wild natural beauty, inhabited by native ponies and red deer. Exmoor Safaris take you right into the heart of this area of heather clad moors, sheltered wooded combes, pretty villages with thatched cottages and ancient packhorse bridges. The National Park rangers provide guided walks.


A few miles from Triscombe is Exmoor’s spectacular northern coast, the highest in Britain, where steep cliffs plunge into the sea. You can enjoy fantastic coastal walks here along the cliff top coastal path, with dramatic views of the coastline and out to sea. From Dunkery Beacon (1707ft) there are panoramic views to Wales, Dartmoor and beyond. Minehead is only 10 miles away with a beach, Butlins, harbour and fantastic steam railway. Historic Dunster (NT castle) is one of the prettiest villages on Exmoor. Porlock and Dulverton offer interesting shops and tea shops where you can enjoy a traditional Somerset cream tea. There are many places to visit locally including Knightshayes Court, a splendid Victorian house at Tiverton.


Other holiday pursuits include fishing and sailing at Wimbleball Lake, and horse riding, mountain biking and hiking across the moor. There is so much to do locally, the owners hope to welcome you back time and time again.
