Find cottages in SomersetVisit Somerset

At the heart of the West Country, Somerset's rolling hills, deep gorges and flowing rivers tell the tales of myths and legends.

From castles, abbeys and museums, to classic English houses and gardens, this is rural England at its best, and with such a wide range of things to see and do, a cottage holiday here provides the perfect base from which to explore the area.

Begin your visit to Somerset by exploring some of the area's rich heritage, starting off with the enigmatic Glastonbury Tor. Sitting high above the land like a beacon, it holds stories of the legends of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. At the base of the Tor lie the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, set in 36 acres of beautiful parkland and ponds it's the perfect destination for a family day out. There's an abundance of historical places in the region so take the time to explore as many as possible, especially Wells Cathedral and the Roman Baths and its museum.

If you can tear yourself away from exploring Somerset's past there's a lot more to explore. Longleat Safari Park is just one of the many animal attractions in the area, but you can also get up close and personal with magnificent shire horses birds of prey and marine life.

From the open expanses of gardens and ancient oak woodlands to sparkling rivers and sandy beaches, Somerset is a haven for lovers of the great outdoors. There are some great natural wonders to explore and with its steep inclines, dramatic peaks and amazing views, Cheddar Gorge makes an ideal location for walkers, climbers, cavers and sightseers alike. Lazy afternoon picnics can be enjoyed, and there's a superb selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes cooking up fresh local produce so you can take a night off from cooking. You could even make a night of it and go see a show at the 17th century Theatre Royal in Bath.

Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in Somerset today.

Set in a spectacular location on the northern slopes of Exmoor National Park, a few hundred yards from the coast and with views of the Bristol Channel, Yenworthy Farm is situated in ‘Doone Country’, and actually appears in the novel itself. The gun which was supposedly used to repel the ‘Doones’ still hangs in the farmhouse to this day. This working farm once had its own mill and the old water wheel can still be seen. Two traditional barns in the courtyard of the farm have been sympathetically converted to offer a very high standard of accommodation throughout.
Yenworthy is ideal for walkers - a rugged pathway leads from the farm down to a secluded beach and there is direct access to one of the most scenic sections of the South West Coast Path. There are 13 miles of footpaths to explore on the farm itself and it even has its own historic monument - an old Roman Fort at Old Burrow. A haven for wildlife, it has four Sites of Special Scientific Interest and rare species of butterflies and trees. The nearest sandy beach is Lee Abbey (5 miles) and there are excellent surfing beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton within easy driving distance. There are three pubs with restaurants within 3 miles and plenty of shops in Lynton and Lynmouth
(4 miles), Polock (7 miles), Minehead (13 miles) and Barnstaple (21 miles), which also has a popular covered market. River fishing and grazing for horses are available by arrangement. Shops 4 miles.

Spacious beamed living/dining room with well-equipped kitchen area, wood-burning stove, wooden floor and door to garden. Stairs to galleried sitting room with TV. Short flight of stairs to double bedroom with 5ft bed and en-suite shower room and toilet. Twin bedroom. Separate toilet. Set on a quiet country lane in beautiful walking country overlooking the Bristol Channel, Parsonage Farm is the perfect holiday location to ’get away from it all’. There has been a house here for almost a thousand years and that rich history is still evident in both properties. Reputedly, Coleridge wrote ’Kubla Khan’ in Culbone Parsonage, the main house. Parsonage Farm Stables (ref 15800) occupies what would once have been the hayloft floor of the adjoining barn, and Parsonage Otter Stables (ref 18192) has been attractively converted from the old stables. The holiday properties are ideally located as a base for walking, touring and riding on the crown of Exmoor. Places to visit include Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth, Watchet Marina and Dunster Castle (NT). The glorious West Somerset and North Devon Coast, Minehead, Exmoor and Lorna Doone Valley are all within easy reach. The highest ’Free House’ pub on Exmoor is just a mile or so away from the house. Picturesque Porlock Weir with its shingle beach is just 3 miles down the hill via a toll road, and local shops can be found in the sleepy village of Porlock. Refs 15800 and 18192 can be booked together to accommodate up to 7 guests.

Step to entrance. All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 single. Bathroom with toilet.
