Alcester itself is a small, attractive town at the heart of one of the most popular tourist areas in the country, 8 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. The town’s heritage spans at least two millennia, from its origins as an important Roman town and fort located at the junction of the two roads - the Salt Way from Droitwich and Ryknield Street to the thriving medieval town and busy 18th-century coaching and staging post (traces of which can be seen today as part of Alcester’s exciting Heritage Trail).
