There are plenty of restaurants, tearooms and cafes in the town as well as both traditional and brand name shops. With a modern leisure complex, including a pool and facilities for tennis, golf and bowls, Dereham caters well for family holidays.

The Vicarage Meadow and Neatherd Moor are ideal for nature lovers to explore, and the Queen Mother's Garden is a lovely place to spend a relaxing hour.

Bishop Bonner's Cottage, which was built in 1502, houses a museum with archaeological and local history displays as well as collections of toys and dolls. Other buildings of note include the recently restored windmill and the Norman Parish Church.

The railway station is now the headquarters of the Mid-Norfolk Railway, and visitors can enjoy trips to nearby Wymondham operated by volunteers.
