The whole area is known as The Isle of Axholme having been drained by the Dutch some 300 years ago. There are many interesting things to visit within a 20-mile radius, such as the famous Haxey Hood (held in January), The Vulcan Experience, a wealth of wildlife and bird reserves, the fantastic Yorkshire Wildlife Park and so much more.
